All of Atlus’ hands are on deck for Persona 6, which is bad news for fans that were hoping for a Persona 4 remake.
Persona 3 transformed the Persona series into what fans are familiar with today, but its successors advanced things forward rapidly. That has left the game feeling more dated than Persona 4 despite the fact that both originally came out on the PlayStation 2. Atlus is looking to fix that with a complete remake of Persona 3, something that has imaginations running wild.
Though old-school fans would love to see Persona 1 and 2 finally get their due and Persona 4 fans would love to see the game with modern graphics, that’s not in the cards at this time. There is still plenty of Persona content coming through the pipeline.
Is there going to be a Persona 6?
Persona publisher Atlus has confirmed that it is developing Persona 6. Twitter leaker @MbKKssTBhz5 has indicated that the publisher is dedicating a significant amount of resources to working on it.
According to MbKKssTBhz5, there are a number of different Persona games in the works. Persona 3 Reload is confirmed to be in development and new Persona 5 spin-off Persona 5 Tactica is slated for release during the holiday season. Atlus is also working on another new IP with gameplay similar to Persona, Metaphor: ReFantazio. On top of all that, work is ongoing on mobile game Persona 5: The Phantom X.
While all those are public knowledge, MbKKssTBhz5 states that the publisher has a few other projects that haven’t been officially revealed. Included in that is a new fighting game and Persona Asa, a new title that will reportedly bring together all the mainline Persona games’ protagonists together.
When is Persona 6 coming out?
Atlus is internally looking to release Persona 6 in 2025 or 2026, according to leakers.
While there were reports that Persona 6 was targeted to come out before the end of 2023, that’s not the case according to MbKKssTBhz5. In June 2023, they stated that Persona 6 was targeted to come out “within the next three years.” That makes the game launching within six months extremely unrealistic.
Creating a new sequel to Persona is a big undertaking by any standard, but juggling it alongside the other publicly revealed projects is a herculean task. Add to that those unannounced projects and it’s likely Persona 6 is still years away. Even if it hypothetically was approaching launch, western fans also ought to remember that Atlus takes its time localizing games. There was more than a year between the Japanese release of Persona 5 Strikers and the Western release.
Is there going to be a Persona 4 remake?
There is not going to be a remake of Persona 4, or Persona 1 and 2 at any point in the foreseeable future.
While Atlus has its fingers in a lot of different pies at the moment, one thing that can conclusively be said is that there aren’t going to be any remakes of past Persona games besides Persona 3 Reload. Atlus is completely overhauling the PS2 title with improved graphics and updated gameplay.
Diehard Persona 4 fans can still easily enjoy their favorite game on modern consoles. Persona 4 Golden is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
