The release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 3 is fast approaching and it is set to add Mac support alongside a long list of bug fixes, performance improvements, and more.
While not much information is officially out yet for Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 3, it’s still set to be a big one. The smash-hit game will be available on a new platform, offering access to a slew of new players. Established fans have been teased with performance improvements that they’ve been clamoring for, possibly including fixes to the final act.
The arrival of a major AAA title that has been heralded as the greatest RPG of all time should be welcome news for Mac users, especially as this support comes relatively shortly after the game’s release. In fact, Mac will actually be getting Baldur’s Gate 3 before Xbox consoles do.
What is in Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 3?
Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 3 will add support for MacOS, bring more performance improvements and will likely fix bugs and UI issues. While the details of Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 2 were mostly known before it arrived, that’s not the case here.
The biggest expected fix is performance improvements for act three of the game. Larian Studios has heavily polished the first half of the game, but players have been grappling with performance issues towards the end. Alongside this is a long list of relatively minor bugs, glitches, and UI issues that could be ironed out.
When is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming out on Mac?
Baldur’s Gate 3 arrives on Mac on September 21 with the release of patch 3. The game is designed and coded to run with M1 Macs, which means it can run natively without the use of any other software or emulation.
Mac players can get Baldur’s Gate 3 through Steam and GOG. Though the game can be downloaded and launched on Mac before then, players are experiencing issues with the game loading and crashing shortly after. Ideally, this patch will resolve this issue and allow players to successfully play on any computer going forward.
Does Baldur’s Gate 3 on Mac have cross-save or cross-play?
Baldur’s Gate 3 has cross-saves across all platforms, so players can move their saves between Mac, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S when it arrives. Players can keep their character across all platforms, but cross-save does have a sign-up process.
Unfortunately, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not have cross-play between consoles and computers. The game will allow Mac and PC players to join together, so people who have the game on Steam will easily be able to jump into a game with each other. PlayStation 5 players are currently on an island however, which is a fate that also awaits Xbox Series X/S players when the game finally arrives.
