Bandai Namco confirmed the final Season 1 DLC character for Tekken 8 will be announced at The Game Awards 2024.
Tekken 8 fans were disappointed when Bandai Namco revealed that there would be no final DLC character reveal at the Tekken World Tour Finals on December 7, 2024. There is currently just one DLC character left for Season 1 and players have been anxiously wondering who it will be. Fans have speculated a returning Armor King or Kazama Kiryu of the Yakuza series.
Developers revealed that the character wouldn’t be announced at the Tekken World Tour Finals as previously expected. While the news initially disappointed fans, it turns out they won’t have to wait very long for the official reveal.
Tekken 8 DLC to be announced at Game Awards 2024
Before the start of Top 8, it was announced that the last Season 1 DLC fighter would be shared at the Game Awards 2024. The awards take place just a few days after the Tekken World Finals, giving fans one last thing to be excited about for Tekken in 2024. Although fans initially thought Fahkunram and Marduk would be the final character because of a seemingly accurate leak, Heihachi’s return put a wrench in that theory.
Given the massive viewership of The Game Awards, the move made perfect sense for reaching audiences. Over 118 million gamers tuned in to the Game Awards in 2023 compared to the World Tour’s 73,000 peak viewers. This will have bigger eyes on the fighting game’s big reveal, possibly drumming up more interest from the general public.
Tekken 8 is also up for a nomination at the Game Awards 2024. It’s in the Best Fighting Game category along with Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, and MultiVersus. Many fans consider Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero as its biggest competitor thanks to Dragon Ball Z’s popularity.
It’s also nominated for Best Multiplayer Game against Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Helldivers 2, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Amongst such heavy hitters, even hardcore fans doubt Tekken 8’s chances of beating those games in the popularity vote.
Devs asked fans to vote for Tekken 8 before the award show began. As of this writing, voting is still open and can be done on the official website.
The Game Awards will begin on December 12 at 4:30 PST.
