Blizzard dropped a cinematic trailer for World of Warcraft: The War Within, which gives fans their first look at the Harronir
World of Warcraft: The War Within is one of the most anticipated expansions in recent years. The latest expansions have faced plenty of scrutiny, especially in regard to the story content. However, The War Within has fans excited because it sees the return of Chris Metzen as a writer for World of Warcraft.
Metzen was the creative director for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, essentially transforming the Warcraft series into the one fans know and love. Although his work lessened somewhat on World of Warcraft, he remained a strong voice in WoW’s direction. One of the most exciting additions from The War Within is the mysterious Harronir, a whole new race.
What is the lore of the Harronir race in WoW?
The Harronir are a mysterious race of people who look like the missing link between Trolls and Night Elves.
The War Within trailer showcases a Harronir woman in action, using her ritualistic dance to harness the power of nature. Most players would understandably assume they were just regular trolls at first glance, but they have clear distinctions. The noses are far less hooked, and the males lack the distinctive hunch of regular male trolls.
As for the lore, nothing is known at this moment, other than what the cinematic trailer confirms. They have deep ties to nature and have aesthetic similarities to trolls and night elves. They are naturally furry or feathery in some areas too, such as the shoulders and cheeks. Some speculate the Harronir will be an Alliance race, to give the boys and girls in blue some more non-standard humanoid races.
Will the Harronir be playable in World of Warcraft?
Blizzard has not confirmed the release date for the Harromir as playable characters in WoW.
Currently, there is no word on whether the Harronir will be playable. The leaked images do showcase the Harronir’s in-game models, which confirms that they will appear in-game in World of Warcraft.
How extensive their involvement in the story will be remains unknown. Some speculate that they have deep ties to the Well of Eternity, the birthplace of both night elves and trolls.
