Nintendo Direct has plenty of surprises for Switch fans, and the new Mature Collection games are one of the biggest highlights.
The recent Nintendo Direct ran for 40 minutes and showed off what the Nintendo Switch has in store for the coming months. Despite being on its way out, the Nintendo console still has a lot to offer its owners. From the new Mario game to the new Legend of Zelda title, abundant new games are coming to the console.
With the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 still on the horizon, fans were surprised to find Nintendo going all in on the Nintendo Direct. The showcase also introduced the Mature Collection for the Switch, a collection of games intended for more mature audiences.
How to play the Mature Collection on Switch
The two new mature games for the Switch, Turok and Perfect Dark, are available on the new “Mature Collection” app, designed to host older mature-rated games.
The games are available for Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack subscribers. Nintendo Switch Online and its premium tier “Expansion Pack” option offers games to subscribers. It’s Nintendo’s version of Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Extra.
Previously, games released on the subscription service launched on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and GoldenEye 007 debuted on the standard app. However, Turok and Perfect Dark are launching via a separate Mature Collection app, presumably making it hard for younger audiences to access.
Perfect Dark has performance issues on Switch
Perfect Dark has severe performance issues on Nintendo Switch, including graphical glitches and low sound.
The newly-released Perfect Dark N64 version faces technical issues that make the game difficult to play, even for dedicated fans. The emulation quality is low, and the “dizzy” visual effect is the biggest culprit, making the game nearly unplayable. The visual effect freezes the game screen and stops any progression. It seems fans will have to wait for the Perfect Dark reboot to properly enjoy the beloved franchise.
GoldenEye 007 had similar issues when emulated on the Switch, and those remain unresolved. That lack of resolution has fans worried that Perfect Dark is unlikely to be fixed any time soon.
The issues also concern the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which was not present in the original Nintendo 64 release. Slowdown during weapon fire, aim sensitivity issues, glitched visual effects, and severe input lag make the game unenjoyable. Turok, on the other hand, is not facing any of these problems.
