Despite Activision-Blizzard’s statement to the contrary, leakers have revealed that the company is still planning to release multiple new titles to Microsoft’s Game Pass service.
The Activision-Blizzard acquisition has been a costly endeavor for Microsoft. After a lengthy investigation by the FTC, Microsoft is finally underway in acquiring the company. A provisional approval from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has been granted, practically ensuring the completion of the acquisition.
One of the biggest questions after the acquisition is whether or not the iconic IPs under Activision-Blizzard, including Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo, will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass service. In response, Activision-Blizzard released a statement.
Are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo IV coming to Xbox Game Pass?
No official plans are set for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo IV to come to Xbox Game Pass, but leaks suggest that Activision-Blizzard is still working to bring its titles to the Game Pass service.
Activision-Blizzard states that it has no plans set up for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo IV to be released on Game Pass. However, it’s implied in the same statement that several titles could arrive in Game Pass by 2024. Considering that Microsoft’s major acquisitions have typically released new titles directly to Game Pass on day one, it would be a surprise for Activision-Blizzard to break the trend.
The vague language used certainly piqued the interest of industry insiders. Multiple reports have implied that Microsoft is set to bring several Activision-Blizzard titles to the Xbox Game Pass service the moment the deal is official. The companies’ denials in the meantime may just be continued posturing until the deal has been completed.
Are all Activision-Blizzard games confirmed for Xbox Game Pass?
No, there is no official confirmation of Activision Blizzard’s entire library coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Although the official statement by Activision-Blizzard did say that several titles were set to arrive on the service by 2024, it’s unknown how much of Activision-Blizzard’s overall library will eventually be made available on Game Pass.
It should be noted that over the summer, Microsoft revived the Xbox 360 servers for older Call of Duty titles. This could potentially be in preparation for the arrival of classic Call of Duty titles to the Game Pass service.
More news will certainly come once this long-awaited deal is finally done. Until then, fans of Call of Duty, Diablo, and more will have to wait to find out if and when they’ll be able to play some of their favorite games in a new way.
