New information regarding The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom suggests that while Zelda is the main playable character, Link isn’t completely out of the spotlight.
One of the most significant things about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the switching of main protagonists. Despite the name having Zelda, every mainline game in the series had players take control of Link, who is typically looking to save Zelda. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom marks the first time Zelda will be the one trying to save Hyrule.
However, recent information suggests Zelda won’t be alone either. The ESRB games rating agency leaked some spoilers regarding the game, and it seems Link isn’t really in the back seat in this game.
Link is playable in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Link is confirmed to be a playable character in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
According to ESRB rating information, Link can “use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies,” indicating that the typical lead character will be playable. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom trailer showed a small section where Link is the lead protagonist before revealing Zelda. Link will likely be playable in the intro or flashbacks that establish him as the “chap in captivity.”
Series creator Eiji Aonuma confirmed that Zelda is stepping into the protagonist role. Because of this, Zelda will likely be the definitive main character, rather than having any kind of time-sharing situation with Link.
In contrast to Link, Zelda is set to predominantly fight with magic. The description also states that Zelda uses a magic wand to summon creatures like wind-up knights, slime monsters, and pig soldiers for battle.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom release date
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releases on September 26, 2024, so fans won’t have to wait long to find out how big a role Link plays in the game.
Echoes of Wisdom will differ from the recent Zelda hit, the Tears of the Kingdom. The new game will have Zelda using the Tri Rod to make duplicate objects called “echoes.” She’ll be able to make duplicates of not only inanimate objects but also monsters in the game.
The game has an art style that’s more in line with the remake of Link’s Awakening. Link disappears after being thrown into a strange rift, with more rifts appearing all over Hyrule. With Link gone, it’s finally up to Zelda to save her kingdom. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch, but some are expecting a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game to follow.
