CD Projekt Red has become a gold mine for Hollywood, and now the company has confirmed that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is in the works.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been slowly but surely redeeming itself as a franchise in the eyes of gamers. After a rough launch where console versions of the game were unplayable, the brand has released several patches that improved the game, the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, and the new Phantom Liberty expansion. While fans have known that CD Projekt Red had further plans for its video game adaptation of the classic TTRPG, there’s even more in store than was initially thought.
Although CD Projekt Red didn’t have anything to do with the production of The Witcher on Netflix, there’s no denying some of the hype behind that series is thanks to the wildly popular The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Now, the studio is hoping to channel the renewed interest in Cyberpunk 2077 towards a live-action project.

Who is making the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project?
Anonymous Content will be in charge of developing Cyberpunk 2077’s live-action project. It is unknown whether this project is a series or a film.
CD Projekt Red is collaborating with well-known media company Anonymous Content for the live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project. Shows such as Mr. Robot and True Detective are among the shows that Anonymous Content has produced. Anonymous Content is also in charge of another upcoming video game adaptation, Square-Enix’s adventure game Life Is Strange.
After the incredible success of Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners, CD Projekt Red is feeling very confident about its next adaptation. The studio told fans that its internal creative team will play a vital role in the project’s development and it’s no secret that there are plans for Cyberpunk 2077 beyond the DLC.
When is the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project coming out?
There is no confirmed release date for the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project.
The show is still in its earliest development stages, so more details will come in the future. It should be noted that the aforementioned Life Is Strange series being produced by Anonymous Content is still in development, despite being announced back in 2016. The project reportedly only fell into Anonymous Content’s lap in August 2021.
It’s not uncommon for live-action adaptations of video games to get caught up in development for years. The Halo TV series was first announced in 2015, but didn’t actually reach the screen until 2021.
On the brighter side of things, CD Projekt Red announced the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners back in June 2020, promised it would come in 2022, and made good on that promise. Similar to the live-action announcement, the studio had no footage to show for Edgerunners during that time. Whatever the case may be, there are sure to be eyes looking towards any Cyberpunk 2077 project.
