A new Ratchet and Clank game is in the works, but fans shouldn’t get too excited about it given its projected release date.
The end of 2023 saw Insomniac Games become a target of a hack by ransomware group “Rhysida,” which resulted in the the company’s release schedule through 2032 being leaked. After some initial teases, much of that data has seemingly reached the wild. Among the leaked data is information on multiple upcoming Insomniac titles, including a new Ratchet and Clank game.
While the Ratchet and Clank game is yet to be officially announced, the leak has also given fans some more information on the title. This includes several voiceover files and new concept art that hints at the overall setting of the game. The estimated release date has also been given for Ratchet and Clank as well as multiple other titles.
When is the new Ratchet and Clank game coming out?
According to the leaks, the new Ratchet and Clank game is slated to be released in Fall 2029, hinting that the game is currently in very early development.
Some leaked concept art of the game leaks that a majority of the upcoming game will take place in space. Ratchet and Clank might get stranded in some other corner of the galaxy, and the main objective of the game will be to get back home. Additionally, Rivet and Kit, the two new characters from 2021’s Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be making a return as playable characters.
The concept art also suggests that the players will make their way to an “intellectual and fun Lombax society that heavily relies on dimensional tech inside a containment field.” The details state that the feel of the place should be similar to Hyrule Castle from Breath of the Wild.
The tone of the game also seems to be edgier than previous games, as hinted by the description of the main antagonist which reads “a new villain with a darker tone and playable emphasis.” A leaked script between Kit and Clank in a place called the “Robot Graveyard” suggests that the upcoming Ratchet and Clank game might delve into some more serious topics like the concepts of creation and death.
The return of Ratchet and Clank was met with fanfare, with the game standing out against Insomniac’s slate of superhero-inspired games. The series continues to draw consistently strong praise with each release which has fans clamoring for more, even if a new game is far in the future.
