Players looking to evolve their Charcadet in Pokemon GO into either Armarouge or Ceruledge may have a bit of a journey ahead of them.
First appearing in Scarlet and Violet, Charcadet made its Pokemon GO debut in March 2024. Players in both games have the option of evolving Charcadet into either the fire-ghost-type Ceruledge or the fire-psychic-type Armarouge. While players in Scarlet and Violet needed to collect special armor, evolving Charcadet in Pokemon GO may take more time and luck than anything else.
Here’s how to get and evolve Charcadet in Pokemon GO, as well as which evolution players should choose if they have to pick.
How to get Charcadet in Pokemon GO
Charcadet only hatches from 10-kilometer eggs in Pokemon GO, making it one of the rarest Pokemon in the game.
Unfortunately, this means the Pokemon is effectively unavailable in the wild. Instead, it is a tier-three Pokemon that hatches exclusively from 10-kilometer eggs. This means that generally, players have a 4-7% percent chance of receiving it from an relevant egg. Notably, this doesn’t include 10-kilometer eggs given from weekly Adventure Sync rewards.
Charcadet has been featured in several events since March 2024, with each one increasing its chance of hatching. This isn’t the standard to this point, however. Given precedent, Pokemon GO players will need to get their steps in to catch a Charcadet for the foreseeable future.
How to evolve Charcadet into Armarouge or Ceruledge
Evolving Charcadet into Armarouge or Ceruledge in Pokemon GO requires both candy and completing tasks with the Pokemon as the player’s buddy.
Players need to have 50 Charcadet candy, which they can get through hatching enough of the Pokemon, walking with it as their buddy, or using rare candy. However, Ceruledge and Armarouge each have an additional requirement to evolve.
To evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge in Pokemon GO, players need to defeat 30 ghost-type Pokemon. Similarly, Armarouge requires defeating 30 psychic-type Pokemon. Charcadet must be set as the buddy Pokemon, but there are several ways to accomplish this, including:
- Defeating Pokemon in raids
- Battling friends or the team leader
- Beating Team Rocket grunts
- Participating in the GO Battle League
Notably, all of these methods only work if the player is battling ghost or psychic-type Pokemon. Once thirty of a kind are defeated, they can choose whether to evolve their Charcadet into Armarouge or Ceruledge.
Participating in the GO Battle League is the fastest way to get the requisite number of wins over psychic or ghost-type Pokemon. Though none of these methods are completely reliable, there are meta-relevant Pokemon of these types across all standard formats, especially in the Great League.
Is it better to evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge or Armarouge?
Armarouge is generally better than Ceruledge, in large part due to its typing.
The Scarlet-exclusive Pokemon wins out in terms of higher defense and stamina stats, and it can also learn the charged move Psyshock. In comparison, Ceruledge has a higher attack and can get Shadow Ball.
The biggest difference between the two Charcadet evolutions is that there are several better options for a fire-ghost-type than Ceruledge already in game. Most notably, Skeledirge and Chandelure both perform better than Ceruledge in PvE and PvP settings. While not uniquely powerful compared to all Pokemon, Armarouge is able to wrack up more wins than either Delphox or Victini in GO Battle Leagues.
In terms of sheer utility, anyone looking for an edge in PvP should evolve Charcadet into Armarouge in Pokemon GO. At the end of the day, players should choose which they like more since there are far more competitive Pokemon in both PvE and PvP settings.
