For those already prepared to expand their Pokedex, new information provides a potential date for the next Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion.

Pokemon TCG Pocket has a lot for players to do in-game. From completing the Genetic Apex Pokedex to crafting the best competitive teams, there’s something for everyone. Those who want to open more packs or take on more battles can even invest in the premium subscription. Still, many fans are clamoring for the next expansion set to hit the game already.

Here’s when players can hopefully expect to see the next expansion of Pokemon TCG Pocket, as well as other leaked events for the next few months.

First Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion release date leaked

Data mines state that the first full Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion will come out on January 29, 2025.

The new expansion will contain 226 base cards in an entirely new set. The set is comparable in size to Genetic Apex, and will likely contain a similar number of full-arts and other special cards. Other leaked information mentions that expansion sets will be on a quarterly release schedule with miniature sets in between. Of note, the physical Pokemon TCG follows a similar roadmap.

For fans who don’t want to wait until 2025 to see new cards, they’re in luck. Though it’s not a full expansion, a Pokemon TCG Pocket mini set is set to be released on December 16. It will contain one to two additional booster packs with a set not currently found in Genetic Apex. According to the datamine, the mini set may also come alongside new game mechanics.

The new expansion could also come with a new addition to the rarity tier list: a rainbow rare. Current information suggests that rainbow will be a variant of the already rare gold crown cards, with additional effects and animations.

It is currently unclear whether these will pull on par with the gold crown cards or be even less common. “Rainbow rares” were a common form of secret rare found in the Pokemon TCG’s Sun and Moon, and Sword and Shield expansions.

Other upcoming updates include mini set, new events

There are plenty of other updates to keep fans busy while they wait for the full Pokemon TCG expansion to go live.

The development team seemingly has one in-game event or another planned through most of December. Some revolve around completing battle missions, while others may rely more on completing wonder picks and other non-competitive tasks. Other leaked upcoming events include:

  • November 21-28: fire-themed Mass Outbreak event, with increased frequency of specific Pokemon and special missions to earn promo or rare cards
  • November 28-December 12: a drop event akin to the Lapras ex event, battle missions with the chance of getting a rare exclusive card
  • December 5-December 19: a Bulbasaur and Magnemite event, with exclusive cards and themed cosmetic items available

Developers seem eager to continue adding new features to Pokemon TCG Pocket beyond just card expansions. This will hopefully keep the mobile game from getting stale and instead make it long-lasting in the Pokemon public consciousness.
