StaySafeTV banned from Twitch, but what happened?

StaySafeTV twitch banned

Twitch has banned controversial World of Warcraft streamer Matt “StaySafeTV” Morse, and some viewers allege it may have something to do with his controversial community.

World of Warcraft has started the careers of several streamers, including Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt and Tim “EsfandTV” Esfandiari. Morse was among the wave of classic World of Warcraft streamers who grew in fame exclusively talking about the game. However, the community around StaySafeTV has recently come under fire after repeated reports of bigoted behavior.

Twitch streamer Ziqo most recently feuded with Morse and his community with a series of tweets showcasing StaySafeTV’s controversial record of alleged bigotry on private Discord servers and Twitter. Ziqo shared apparent screenshots from Morse’s Discord server, one of which showcased Morse seeming to use racist slurs when referring to the BLM protests.

A few days after the feud concluded, Twitch suddenly banned StaySafeTV.

Why did Twitch ban StaySafeTV?

Twitch hasn’t given an official reason for its ban of StaySafeTV. Morse on claimed on X that the reasons for the StaySafeTV Twitch ban are sensitive and that he would refrain from getting into it publicly, though his claim may have been mocking.

Ziqo quickly responded to StaySafeTV’s ban, stating “good riddance,” which caused Morse’s fans to retaliate. In response to these fans, Ziqo said that he “will always cheer on the downfall of nazis, especially ones that try to cancel [him].”

Elseewhere on social media following the StaySafeTV Twitch ban, a user shared an extensive album of bigoted posts and jokes taken from Morse and his community. Many expressed shock that it took this long for Twitch to ban Morse, given his community’s apparent repeated abuse of Twitch’s terms of service. Supporters of Morse believe Twitch is biased against the streamer for his open support of right-wing American politics.

Other than Morse’s tweet, he has provided no context for why he was suspended from the streaming platform, and neither has Twitch itself. So far it’s only speculation that the reason for his ban was due to any form of potential bigotry.

Morse’s fans reacted negatively to the news, ranging from those who agree with his politics and want to see his ideas on the platform to those who simply want more of his World of Warcraft content

Twitch has not confirmed how long StaySafeTV’s ban will last.
