Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown release date revealed for 2024

It’s been a long time, but Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown finally has a concrete release date.

The original Test Drive Unlimited dropped in 2006 to good reviews courtesy of its open-world exploration and driving physics. The game saw a sequel in 2011 but since then, the series has been dormant.

The next game, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, is being called a soft reboot of the series and is being developed by a different team. KT Racing and Nacon are working on the game and aim to deliver a “lifestyle and social experience that redefines the standards of open-world racing games.”

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown saw several delays after its initial 2020 announcement. It was slated to release in September 2022 but thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown release date

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be released on September 12, 2024. Pre-orders have already gone live.

The release date announcement is accompanied by a sleek trailer showcasing the game, which is set on Hong Kong Island, accurately reproduced at 1:1 scale. Whether the roads are streamlined to accommodate racing remains to be seen. The trailer shows two characters talking about their experience and what the “Solar Crown” competition means to them.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks good, especially the highly detailed car models. The island of Hong Kong looks stunning and has a day-night cycle. The blurb under the trailer encourages players to collect exceptional cars from dealerships, customize them in workshops, and showcase their style. The gameplay loop is standard open-world racing fare, reminiscent of Forza Horizon and The Crew series, which is precisely what fans of the series want.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown platforms

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The game is already up for pre-orders for $60 for the standard edition, $80 for the Silver Streets and Silver Sharps Editions, and $90 for the Gold Edition. The Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Silver Streets and Silver Sharps Editions give beta access and a two-day early unlock of the final game. The Gold Edition offers VIP beta access and a seven-day early access to the game.

Nacon planned to release Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but those versions have been canceled. Nacon has announced that the game will include over 100 licensed prestige car brands.
