A massive Game Freak leak has revealed some shocking information about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including which Pokemon will have new mega evolutions.
Over the weekend, Pokemon developer Game Freak experienced a data breach where an employee shared private information regarding upcoming Pokemon games, concept art for scrapped Pokemon designs, and series lore. One portion of the massive leak included information about the mysterious upcoming game Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
Pokemon has been very hush-hush about a new title. A reveal trailer has been officially shared but nothing else has arrived, leaving fans in the dark about the game’s plot, features, and even included Pokemon. Leaks regarding the game have been similarly scarce but that changed with a major data breach within Game Freak.
Mega Zeraora, Mega Zygarde reportedly coming in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
While little has come from the leaks related to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the one key reveal is confirmation that new mega evolutions are coming. At the end of the cryptic trailer for Z-A, Pokemon revealed the symbol for the mechanic. While mega evolution was confirmed to make a return in the game in the reveal trailer, but it was previously unclear whether this mechanic would be expanded upon.

Mega evolution is a temporary evolution mechanic that sees a Pokemon change its appearance, stats, and potentially its type. To mega evolve, Pokemon need to hold a Mega Stone item as one of the requirements. Players were able to evolve one Pokemon per battle. Mega evolution appeared in all sixth and seventh-generation Pokemon games but controversially disappeared in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The return of mega evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A was well-received by fans and the game will reportedly add Mega Zygarde and Mega Zeraora, according to the Game Freak leaks.
Mega Zygarde is reportedly set to appear in the Z-A anime as well. Pokemon trainers are excited to see these popular Pokemon get the mega treatment. Mega Zeraora has especially caught fans’ attention on social media.
For now, it’s unclear how mega evolutions will work in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. It’s also not known how many mega evolutions there will be. 46 were introduced across the gen-six Pokemon games and two more would make 48.
Players widely speculate that the Kalos starters Delphox, Greninja, and Chesnaught will get new legendaries alongside legendaries Xerneas and Yveltal. This would make sense given the precedent set in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Pokemon Legends: Z-A has a 2025 release window.
