Armored Core 6 DLC might be coming, here’s how we know

A job posting suggests that FromSoftware’s first big project after Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be a new Armored Core title or a DLC for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

FromSoftware might be most known for its Soulsborne line of games, but that doesn’t mean the studio hasn’t worked on other things. Case and point is the Armored Core series, a popular mech shooter franchise that couldn’t be more different from the Souls games. After a decade-long hiatus for the series, Armored Core 6 launched in 2023.

A recent job listing on the company’s website suggests a new DLC or title in the series may be under development. The job listing mentions robots, leading many to believe it may be regarding Armored Core in some capacity.

Will Armored Core 6 get DLC?

A job listing for FromSoftware suggests that Armored Core 6 might have DLC under development.

The job listing explicitly states the company is looking for someone expected to model and texture characters or robots. FromSoftware does not mention what project this role is for, and doesn’t state whether it’s for Armored Core 6 DLC. However, the fact that the listing has robots implies that something related to the series is in development.

Following Armored Core 6’s launch, FromSoftware data miner Zullie the Witch found code strings related to DLC. They speculated that this suggests a DLC is coming, rather than an enhanced re-release like Armored Core 4: For Answer or Armored Core 5: Verdict Day.

This doesn’t definitively prove the company is planning a DLC for the game. Additionally, as these lines of text were discovered around Armored Core 6’s launch, plans might have changed as DLCs and games are constantly getting slashed in the planning phases. However, with the success of Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s safe to assume that FromSoftware might be gearing towards another expansion.

While a DLC is the most likely possibility, FromSoftware would have to work around the main story. The base game has branching paths, which means character deaths, alliances, and more factors to consider.

Alternatively, the company might be working on a spin-off game in the Armored Core series. FromSoftware has worked on numerous other mech games including original releases like Chromehounds and licensed games like Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
