Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will officially be titled Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and fans can already get a really strong read on its release date.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has gone through several “resets” of late. Ever since the conclusion of the Ezio trilogy and Desmond Miles story arc, Assassin’s Creed has shifted away from continuous narratives and focused on self-contained stories across different historical settings. Fan reception to the new approach is mixed, but the franchise remains commercially successful.
In September 2022, Ubisoft revealed Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a hub for all the Assassin’s Creed games moving forward. One of the first-ever titles coming to the hub is Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and it’s coming in 2024.
When is the release date of Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on November 15, 2024, on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
Notably, the title will not receive an Xbox One release despite its presence on the last-gen PlayStation. What that means for the Xbox One generation moving forward remains to be seen. Still, PS4 fans appreciated not being left behind, given the console being winded down by some publishers.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, in typical Ubisoft fashion, will also have multiple release editions. The season pass will reportedly cost $40 and come with Assassin’s Creed Shadows Ultimate Edition. In addition, the season pass confirms future DLC for the next Assassin’s Creed title.
Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows have DLC?
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will have DLC available on launch, with more coming later down the line.
Season Pass players will get access to a questline titled “Origami Killer” alongside the usual bundle of cosmetics. Many fans immediately joked about the DLC’s title because of its association with the Quantic Dream game Heavy Rain. The PS3 adventure game’s story centered around a serial killer dubbed the Origami Killer. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will reportedly receive two expansions at a later date.
Notably, Ubisoft also released an hourglass puzzle for fans to crack on social media, which likely reveals details about Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Given the ARG nature of the puzzle, this may hint at modern-day elements of the upcoming entry. Ubisoft will likely reveal more about Assassin’s Creed Shadows in their Ubisoft Forward event on June 10, 2024.
