Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 isn’t the last update; what Larian’s planning

Baldur's Gate 3 Dark Urge

For anyone who feared Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 7 would be the game’s final update, developer Larian Studios has assured it still has a few more updates planned.

Patch 7 went live on September 5, introducing a batch of new content, bug fixes, and other tweaks. The biggest additions were its new evil endings and official mod support, with the latter meaning fans can more easily come up with their own Baldur’s Gate 3 creations.

With mod support putting the game’s future squarely in the hands of players, it’d be logical to assume Larian had now completely moved on from Baldur’s Gate 3. The studio’s already said it has no DLC plans for for the game, nor will it helm a sequel. However, Larian’s time with Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t quite over. The studio is set to stick with the game for at least a while longer.

What other future updates are planned for Baldur’s Gate 3?

Larian Studios announced that it plans to ship Baldur’s Gate 3 patch 7 on consoles and Mac, then add a photo mode and cross-play.

In a blog post on the studio’s website, Larian promised more patches are on the docket for Baldur’s Gate 3. The first is simply getting Patch 7 working on consoles and Mac devices. The new patch is only available on PC, meaning console and Mac players can’t load their cross-saves from the PC version. What’s more, multiplayer between the PC and Mac versions isn’t possible. Assuming nothing changes and there are no delays, Larian is hoping to get Patch 7 on consoles and Mac in October.

As for entirely new updates, Baldur’s Gate 3 has yet to receive full cross-play. While Larian doesn’t have any sort of launch window for this, it is actively working on its inclusion. This way, players will be able to adventure together without needing to own the game on the same platform.

Lastly, there will be a photo mode, though details on that are equally slim. Given the lack of an estimated release date, it might be safe to assume neither update will be ready until 2025.

There will also be smaller fixes to come, but there’s no mention of any new content or major gameplay updates. For now, all Larian has said is that it will keep fans informed about its progress, so the most eager of players will want to keep an eye on the Baldur’s Gate 3 website and social media channels.

Once all this is done and dusted, Larian will focus all its attention on its next project.

What will Larian Studios make after Baldur’s Gate 3?

Larian Studios is set to work on something separate from Baldur’s Gate after it is done with these next few patches.

The studio hasn’t revealed what its next video game project will be. Whether it’s Divinity: Original Sin 3 or something new, Larian will be looking to hit another home run.

Bioware, the previous steward of the Baldur’s Gate series, went on to make its own original series including Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Though the studio has fallen on hard times since then, Larian will be looking to imitate those successes while avoiding the same pitfalls.
