Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has dropped and gamers are diving into the game’s campaign, challenges, and multiplayer modes; unless they get the Puget-Lakes error and can’t figure out a fix.
Since Black Ops 6’s release, Treyarch has offered updates and hotfixes to remove frustrating bugs and gameplay issues. Some of these updates have caused many players to experience an error that won’t stop popping up; the Puget-Lakes error.
This longstanding issue with Call of Duty games has been a bane upon the series. Here’s what players know about the error and how to deal with it.
What is the Puget-Lakes error in Black Ops 6?
The Puget-Lakes error essentially won’t allow players to log in and play any matches.
The Puget-Lakes error is not new to the Call of Duty series. Across multiple games in the series, fans have been reporting instances of the Puget-Lakes popup in Warzone, Modern Warfare II, and beyond.
It’s unclear exactly what leads to the Puget-Lakes errors occurring. Speculation points to various possibilities including game files being corrupted, servers being overloaded, and players needing to download an update. Regardless, the end result is the same; players ultimately can’t play the game.
Others have reported the Puget-Lakes error popping up after starting matches. This results in getting booted out mid-game and having this error message pop up. Regardless of the cause or how it manifests, it’s definitely frustrating.
How to fix the Puget-Lakes error in Black Ops 6
Players have reported that the Puget-Lakes error can be fixed by restarting their game or hardware.
Activision hasn’t revealed the cause of this error or rolled out a definitive fix. As in past titles, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players have had to find workarounds to deal with the Puget-Lakes error as it pops up.
The most common way to deal with the Puget-Lakes error has been closing the game, checking if there are any updates, and then starting the game back up. Forcing the program to close completely and then re-opening it has often caused the game to begin updating. From there, the game error has commonly disappeared.
This isn’t a surefire fix, however. Some players have reported closing and restarting the game multiple times in order to have the error go away. Others have had to simply wait for the issue to go away on its own. The fact that the exact reason for the error is unknown makes it vague
There are a few other things to check if the above hasn’t solved the issue. Players will have to check that there are no server issues. This can be done by:
- Shut down the game entirely
- Restart the router that your PC or console uses
- Turn it off and leave it off for 30 seconds
- Turn it back
- Try loading back into the game once internet is restored
Another issue could be corrupted files, which is more common for PlayStation 5 gamers. If this is suspected, select the Call of Duty title from the main menu, press Options from the controller, and locate the Restore Licenses option. Going through this process will fix corrupted files.
Once players get through this, they can get back to unlocking weapons and min-maxing their loadouts.
