Changing a character’s appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming

Players will likely be able to change the face and appearance of their Baldur’s Gate 3 characters in the near future, with a developer saying that something of this nature is being “cooked.”

Character appearance in RPGs can be quite important. The entire idea of a “role-playing” game is to get engaged with it in a way that lets the player project themselves into the action. Games like Baldur’s Gate 3 also involve a lot of dialog, so being frequently reminded of mistakes during character creation isn’t ideal. With the game potentially lasting hundreds of hours, starting over is a non-starter for many.

A mid-game character appearance would be perfectly suited to the game. But as robust and feature-laden as Baldur’s Gate 3 is, this option is actually absent. Thankfully, that is likely going to change.

Can you change your character appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Players are unable to change the appearance of their Baldur’s Gate 3 character after the start of the game. But this is seemingly set to change.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has hearty character creation options, letting players change almost every aspect of their virtual avatar. The game doesn’t offer views of the player character in different environments, lighting, and conditions. This can lead to regrets down the road but unfortunately, there’s no going back.

Different RPGs have taken different approaches to mid-game character appearance changes. In Skyrim, a shady character named Galathil changes the player’s face and charges 1,000 gold for her services. Dragon Age: Inquisition has a free DLC that lets players change the appearance of their Warden. Elden Ring has a mirror in Roundtable Hold that lets players change their character’s face, or remove some of the cosmetic changes they undergo during the course of the game.

None of Baldur’s Gate 3’s options are as regrettable as games like Fallout 4, but fans still want the ability to change.

Traditionally, the feature brings up the character creation screen and lets players re-do all their superficial character choices. Changing hair, facial hair, eye color, and other features are available in this feature. This isn’t in Baldur’s Gate 3 at this time, but a developer for the game indicated that a change is coming. Players looking for more character customization options may want to consider getting some mods for Baldur’s Gate 3.

When is Baldur’s Gate 3 appearance change coming?

A Baldur’s Gate 3 developer indicated that the ability to change character appearances will be added to the game in the future. So it will be some while before players will be able to change their character’s weird mustaches.

Director of publishing Michael Douse confirmed the feature while replying to a fan on Twitter. Douse assured the team is working on appearance change and things are being cooked.

Larian has been fast at work developing hotfixes for their popular RPG. The developers are also working on the first major patch for the game. Baldur’s Gate 3 is an instant hit, breaking records on Steam

The game is set to launch on the PlayStation 5 on September 6 with the Xbox Series X/S version releasing later.
