SF6 Season 4 DLC characters revealed, and fans are upset

The long-awaited announcement of which characters would be included in the upcoming SF6 DLC for Season 4 has arrived, and series fans have immediately begun voicing their displeasure.

Few announcements carry as much weight in the fighting game world as the reveal of a new set of characters for Street Fighter 6. Rumors and supposed leaks had fans excited, but that excitement seems to have been blunted by the reality of the latest announcement.

Who is in Street Fighter 6 DLC for Season 4?

The Street Fighter 6 DLC for Season 4 is set to feature new characters Yasmine and Arjun, as well as World Tour character Bosch and Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa.

Tifa is the only one of the four characters who’d been heavily rumored to be included. One of the most popular characters in the long-running Final Fantasy franchise, Tifa seems a natural fit for Street Fighter 6 given her brawling, fists-first style of combat. In fighting game action, she should look very similar to how she performs in Final Fantasy 7 and its remakes.

The rumor that Tifa would be included as a DLC character in Street Fighter 6 has proven true, and fans were largely pleased with that. But the other three new characters received a far colder reception.

Why are fans mad about the SF6 DLC characters?

Fans are largely mad about the new SF6 DLC characters because they focus on original character designs and a character featured in the game’s World Tour mode, rather than on any classic returning names with built-in fan support.

Arjun and Yasmine are entirely new names. The latter is a brawling woman with taped fists and brightly-colored clothing, while the former is a burly bearded man whose size dwarfs the other three characters included in the SF6 Season 4 DLC.

As both are new characters, neither has any established fan support. And while Street Fighter fans are generally welcoming of new characters, seeing multiple such names in a new DLC season isn’t going over particularly well.

The most controversial inclusion may be that of Bosch. A prominent character in the game’s single-player World Tour mode, Bosch wasn’t exactly well-remembered, much less beloved. Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode was praised for its depth and the way it incorporated a variety of popular characters into its narrative, not as much for its writing or for any of the new characters created specifically for the mode. Bosch is representative of both of those things.

Fan sentiment may well change once players are actually able to try out the new characters for themselves. But for the time being, developer Capcom isn’t quite getting the rosy reception it surely hoped for, and has gotten in the past, with its latest announcement.
