At long last, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S, but they’re not coming out immediately or together.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has been a critical hit, even if it hasn’t hit the numbers that Square Enix was hoping for. Though much of the discourse surrounding the series was its role in the publisher’s financial struggles, fans have eagerly anticipated its release on other platforms. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are both available on PC at this point, but the games are yet to arrive on other consoles.
After years of reports and hints of this happening by Square Enix, leakers have narrowed things down regarding these long-awaited ports. Here’s the word on Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth coming to Xbox and Nintendo consoles.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake reportedly coming to Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is reportedly set to come out on both Xbox Series consoles and the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point in 2025.
The word comes from NateTheHate on the January 10, 2025 edition of the Nate the Hate Podcast. NateTheHate previously leaked the release dates of Nintendo Direct and State of Play events. In a discussion regarding the January 25 Xbox Developer Direct, he stated that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth were set for an Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2 release.
“My speculation is that this announcement will take place at the developer direct. I want to make that part clear. But I can confirm that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be coming to Xbox…these games will also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2,” NateTheHate said.
Word of a Switch 2 and Xbox release for Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been swirling for years. Xbox seemingly spoiled the news in 2023 and reports stated that FF7 Remake was used for test-running the Switch 2 after the first reports of devkits being distributed surfaced.
The Switch 2 ought to be powerful enough to run the game, while the Xbox Series X shouldn’t have any trouble. There was no exact release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming to Xbox or Nintendo consoles beyond simply stating that it will come out this year. However, it’s set to come out sooner than its sequel.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth set to hit Xbox, Nintendo consoles in 2026
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is reportedly set to come to Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. While both games are already available on PC, gamers will have to wait for a good while before they can play Rebirth on another console, according to NateTheHate.
It’s unclear why this call is being made. Square Enix may want to give fans some breathing room between the two games, or it could be a matter of development resources. Regardless, fans will have to wait for some time before playing the 2024 Game of the Year nominee.
Either way, Final Fantasy’s biggest games returning to multiple platforms should be welcome news for Xbox fans. Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 also speaks to a welcome return of major multi-platform games.
