X, formerly Twitter, is giving streamers who broadcast on the platform some acknowledgment with a distinct XGaming badge; here’s what’s known about it, and how to get it.
In 2023, it was officially announced that streamers could broadcast their gameplay on X using third-party screen captures. Elon Musk himself demonstrated this first, playing Diablo 4 for 52 minutes. Since then, many streamers have jumped on the XGaming bandwagon, sharing their gameplay on social media sites without knowing it may earn them a badge one day.
On September 11, a new red controller badge appeared next to the name of popular X streamers. Now, aspiring creators are wondering how to snag one as well.
How to get the XGaming badge
The exact procedure for obtaining the X Gaming badge is currently unclear, but it appears that streamers do not need to submit an application or sign any agreements to receive the badge.
Streamers who have received the badge appear to be just as surprised as their fans, judging by their posts after getting the flair on their profile. It is likely that the badge is awarded automatically to eligible streamers based on certain criteria set by X.
What are these criteria? That’s yet to be announced, but it’s worth noting that Valorant pro player Max “Demon1” Mazanov received his badge right after his first stream on X. That suggests that the criteria are likely not that strict, and new streamers may be able to find quick success claiming the XGaming badge if they stream regularly.
What is XGaming badge on Twitter?
The X Gaming badge appears alongside the names of streamers on the X platform. Notably, the badge has been awarded to streamers beyond just gamers, including coding streamers, suggesting that it may not be exclusively limited to game streaming.
The badges started appearing randomly next to the names of select streamers, who had follower counts ranging anywhere from 3,500 to 3 million. When you click on the tiny red controller, it takes you to the official page of XGaming, where there’s a list of “affiliate” streamers.
This implies that streamers with the XGaming badge are not necessarily exclusive to the X platform but rather have met certain criteria to be considered affiliates, similar to Twitch’s affiliate program. The badge appears to be an indicator of their status rather than a sign of exclusivity.
