Despite all of the build-up for a September reveal date a leaker stated that the Switch 2 announcement may come later, and that there will be more than one version of the console available at launch.
Information and rumors about the Switch 2 reveal date have been circulating for years. The most recent estimates and report pinned Nintendo as announcing the Switch 2 in late September or early October. However, a new leaker using the name “moistycharlie” on Discord has stated that October is more likely and even given a price point and SKU details.
Here’s when the Switch 2 may actually be revealed and what the new plan could be.
Nintendo Switch 2 reveal may have been pushed back to early October
Potentially leaked information reveals that the Switch 2 will be announced in early October, for an initial price of $400.
A member of the GTA 6 Discord server, moistycharlie, made the claim, citing industry connections. Little is known about the Discord user moistycharlie other than his previous prediction. In May 2024 he claimed that Sony would reveal PS5 Pro on September 10, with this proving true.
This also follows Dealabs’ Billbil-Kun brushing off other reporters’ implications of a Switch 2 reveal in September.
Neither an early October reveal date nor a $400 starting price would be surprising to those keeping up with Switch 2 rumors. The Tokyo Games Show also looms, running from September 26 to 29. With Switch 2 production officially set to begin this month, Nintendo could feasibly be ready to release information in the near future.
While a Nintendo Direct event in mid or late September is a tradition, it’s unknown whether it might be replaced or delayed by the potential Nintendo Switch 2 reveal.
Additionally, an MSRP of $400 has also been floating around since at least January 2024. Numerous memes have popped up in the past few days using that price to make fun of the PS5 Pro. Both of these occured before moistycharlie posted anything to Discord.
2 versions of Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly coming, what will they be?
Multiple individuals have claimed that there are two Nintendo Switch 2 SKUs, suggesting there will be multiple versions of the console available at launch.
While the difference between the two stock keeping units is currently unknown, there are several possible options. The original Nintendo Switch also had two SKUs, one for the gray Joy-Cons and another for the red and blue ones. More radical differences that have been reported on or speculated about include versions with and without cartridge ports, or having the dock bundled or sold separately.
