The long-running Earth Defense Force series celebrates its sixth mainline entry with Earth Defense Force 6, and its release date is very soon.
The Earth Defense Force series has amassed a cult following across its two decades of existence. The series focuses on the titular Earth Defense Force as it defends the planet from hordes of mindless enemies. It did all this decades before Helldivers 2 repopularized the subgenre with the smash hit PlayStation 5 game.
The Earth Defense Force franchise may not be a critical darling, but fans of the franchise love its addictive gameplay, campy tone, and over-the-top story. Finally, an official release date trailer has dropped for Earth Defense Force 6’s western release, and it’s as silly as ever.
When is Earth Defense Force 6’s release date?
Earth Defense Force 6 will launch worldwide on July 25, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Technically, Earth Defense Force 6 was released far earlier, on August 25, 2022. However, the game was released exclusively in Japan, and it wasn’t until October 2023 before D3Publisher announced a Western release date. Notably, the Japan-only release has sold over 300,000 copies, the fastest in the franchise’s history.
Earth Defense Force 6 will finally arrive in North America, Europe, and the rest of the world this summer. In typical EDF fashion, the release trailer continues the series’ complete lack of seriousness. It also showcased the exciting horde shooter gameplay that made fans love it in the first place. After years of waiting, Western fans are excited to hop back into the Earth Defense Force and shoot some bugs.
Earth Defense Force 6 pre-order bonuses include Hololive Vtubers recruiters
Pre-order copies of Earth Defense Force 6 will include exclusive equipment and Hololive-themed DLC.
Just like its Japanese release, Earth Defense Force 6 has collaborated with Japanese VTuber agency Hololive for exclusive DLC. To celebrate the release for North America and Europe, players can nab Hololive talents Takanashi Kiara, Gawr Gura, and IRyS as recruiters if they pre-order or purchase the game before December 24, 2024.
Other pre-order bonuses include a Reverse Core Type N Wing Diver support device and Power Exoskeleton Nix Metal Coat. Alongside the trailer, Earth Defense Force 6 was made available for pre-order on the PlayStation Store, and available for wishlists on Steam.
