Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 will have an early access period, but many will have to wait for the game’s actual release date.
While the second half of 2023 is jam-packed with big-name games, Baldur’s Gate 3 has still shone brightly. The game has enjoyed enormous support on Steam and it’s only set to grow. It’s not just the great mods that are coming out for the game and possible DLCs or expansions, either. The game is still yet to launch on consoles.
That will change soon, though. Here’s the release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5, details on its early access, and what’s in store for Xbox owners.
How to get into Baldur’s Gate 3 early access for PlayStation 5
PlayStation 5 owners can get early access to Baldur’s Gate 3 by pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
There is no early access for the standard edition of Baldur’s Gate 3. Pre-load also begins early for those with the Digital Deluxe Edition, letting them enjoy the hit RPG four days earlier than the standard edition owners. Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios disclosed the pre-load times and the release schedule for the PS5 version.
Baldur’s Gate 3 PS5 release date and time
Baldur’s Gate 3 launches on PlayStation 5 on September 6 at 9 a.m. PT, 12 p.m. ET. Baldur’s Gate 3 early access is offered to Digital Deluxe Edition owners on September 2 at 9 a.m. PT, 12 p.m. ET.
The Baldur’s Gate 3 standard edition retails for $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition is listed at $79.99 on the PlayStation Store. Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition can be preloaded through the PlayStation store starting on August 31 at 9 a.m. PT, 12 p.m. ET. Preloading for the standard edition starts at the same time on September 4.
Early access isn’t the only thing the Digital Deluxe Edition has. The Divinity Bard song pack, the Treasures from Rivellon pack, and a dice theme are the highlights, among other items.
Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC didn’t have a pre-loading option. Steam buckled under the load and players struggled to download the hefty 122 GB PC version of the game. Thankfully, players on PlayStation 5 won’t need to download the game on launch day.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X/S?
Yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to Xbox Series X/S. No release date for the Xbox version has been confirmed.
The console parity demanded by Microsoft between the Series X and Series S consoles has proven to be a hurdle for Larian Studios. The developers are reportedly unable to implement the split-screen multiplayer feature properly on the weaker Series S console. The studio is still working on this feature and an Xbox version will come out at some point.
Ideally, Xbox owners will get Baldur’s Gate 3 at some point in 2024. In the meantime, Xbox fans can enjoy upcoming space RPG Starfield, which is made by Bethesda Game Studios.
