Game Freak has been hit by an apparent cyberattack that resulted in an information leak on its operations, Nintendo, and Pokemon. That includes a number of leaked monster and character designs, including what appears to be a toilet Pokemon.
Nintendo’s history with leaks is quite intense. The infamous Nintendo “gigaleak” in 2018 saw the company weather through its biggest data breach to date. The gigaleak was unprecedented, especially for a company as secretive as Nintendo. Recent news suggests it may have happened again.
Multiple leakers have stated Game Freak was hit by a data breach. The leak revealed projects in development, concept art, file lists, and, unfortunately, the personal information of employees. Among the more interesting tidbits was leaked concept art for a certain electric-type Pokemon.
Leaks uncovered a toilet form for the Gen 4 Pokemon Rotom
The Pokemon leak showcased what appears to be a scrapped alternate form for the Plasma Pokemon, Rotom.
Although concept art for other Pokemon popped up, Rotom’s toilet transformation captured people’s attention immediately. The popularity of series like Skibidi Toilet and the general absurdity around toilet humor definitely played a role.
For the uninitiated, Rotom has the special ability to haunt appliances. Depending on the appliance, Rotom’s type changes and it gains access to a new move. For example, the lawnmower version of Rotom is an electric-grass type and learns while an oven Rotom would be electric-fire. The concept extends further in Pokemon Sun and Moon with a Rotom phone, making it another Pokemon that can communicate with the player in-game.

Some fans believe the concept art would have been the electric-water type variant of Rotom. Instead, players got the familiar Wash Rotom. However, the toilet water may lead some to believe it’s a poison-electric type, given the toxic gases potentially present in its bowl.
Concept art for other Pokemon also found in leaks
Scrapped designs of Honchkrow, Shaymin, and Lickilicky were also present in the leaks.
Concept art and sprites are included, which are purportedly part of a beta version of a gen-four Pokemon game. While Rotom got most of the attention, others like the Lickilicky have their fans.
Other designs, such as the early concept for Gallade, drew criticism for their simplicity. Given that these are concept art, these flaws were likely ironed out internally by the artists too. With the Pokemon leak still a developing story, more info may arise.
