Genshin Impact: The new Lunarcharged elemental reaction explained

genshin impact lunarcharged

Genshin Impact is tossing in a new elemental reaction called Lunarcharged, and many players are curious as to how this reaction will play out.

It’s been nearly three years since the Dendro reactions shook things up when they were released with the Sumeru update in Genshin Impact, and now developer HoYoverse is making room for a brand-new elemental reaction called Lunarcharged.

Lunarcharged, unlike Rimegrass, is entering as a permanent basic reaction between Electro and Hydro. It behaves similarly to Electro-Charged but comes with different conditions. With Lunarcharged soon to enter the game, it’s the perfect time to get familiar with how the reaction works and exactly who can use it.

What is the Lunarcharged reaction in Genshin Impact?

Lunarcharged, or Lunar Electrocharged, is triggered when Electro and Hydro react, regardless of their order, so long as at least one of the units involved has the Moonsign Benediction.

This reaction is essentially Electrocharged, but with specific conditions and upgraded effects. Shown off in a recent showcase, Lunarcharged unleashes a thundercloud effect that deals damage over time at targets affected by both electro and hydro.

Crit rate and crit damage also come into play along with elemental damage, as this reaction triggers crit hits. The damage done by Lunarcharged also pulls from the stats of everyone involved in the reaction, not just the specific character who triggered it.

The fact that Lunarcharged’s damage pulls from the whole team’s stats makes it way more reliable than Electro-Charged. Normally, for reactions like this to hit as hard as players would like for them to, the character with the highest EM needs to be the one triggering it. This seems quite simple for Melt or Vape teams, but it can quickly become much more complicated for taser comps.

Before Lunarcharged can trigger, the team needs someone with the Moonsign Benediction in their passive talents. So far, the only character confirmed to have that is Ineffa, a character set to debut in version 5.8. Her best teams will naturally make use of staple taser units including Fischl, Clorinde, Ayato, Raiden Shogun, Childe, and others. Her own kit fits right in too as she applies Electro consistently and deals damage from off-field.

Thankfully, Lunarcharged isn’t exclusive to Ineffa. She may be the first character to trigger it, but HoYoverse has clarified that the mechanic isn’t locked exclusively to her kit. That opens the door for future characters, including others potentially from Nod-Krai, may also carry the Moonsign Benediction passive talent or otherwise benefit from the new Lunarcharged elemental reaction in Genshin Impact.
