The EULA of Tekken 8 was made public and questions were raised about whether Tekken 8 will have anti-cheat or the controversial Denuvo DRM. Game director Katsuhiro Harada heard of this and sounded off on Twitter.

Tekken 8’s EULA suggests that the game will have DRM and anti-cheat measures, but the game’s director says that isn’t the case. When asked about this by a fan on Twitter, Harada denied the inclusion of Denuvo in Tekken 8.

Denuvo is an anti-cheat and anti-piracy software that is controversial among PC gamers. Some gamers claim it causes performance issues but Denuvo denies this is the case. The inclusion of Denuvo in games has proven to be a sensitive matter with some fan groups, with a recent example being backlash against Capcom for Denuvo’s addition to Street Fighter 6.

Does Tekken 8 have Denuvo or any other DRM?

Game director Katsuhiro Harada stated that Tekken 8 will not have the controversial Denuvo DRM.

Replying to a now-deleted tweet, the Tekken creator said the controversial anti-cheat system will not be a part of Tekken 8 and bristled at fans’ frustration over the matter. While the game’s EULA suggested that Denuvo would be included in the game, Harada stated that this was possibly due to the game’s EULA simply being copied directly from Tekken 7.

Harada provides his own sometimes-questionable translations for tweets. That said, there was one thing that was particularly clear.

“I’ve no plans to introduce Denuvo or anything else in Tekken 8,” Harada stated.

From what the game director said, it is clear that there is no Denuvo in Tekken 8. He also said “anything else” so chances were the game won’t use any sort of DRM either. This remains to be seen as the EULA is still not updated.

Does Tekken 8 have an anti-cheat?

It is unknown whether Tekken 8 will have an anti-cheat engine, but precedent suggests it will.

A good anti-cheat is essential for online games like Tekken 8. Denuvo doubles as anti-tamper software and doesn’t let users modify or change files associated with the game. This is vital for ensuring users don’t use third-party software to gain an unfair advantage against opponents.

Though Harada’s tweet suggests that the game won’t have any kind of anti-cheat, that seems unlikely. There are a number of other anti-cheat systems available besides Denuvo.

Harada recently revealed that Raven and Azucena will appear in Tekken 8 at Evo 2023. More details about the game, including its anti-cheat, will follow in the coming months. Tekken 8 does not currently have a release date.
