Invasions are the newest single-player mode coming to Mortal Kombat 1, according to a new apparent leak on the upcoming fighting game.
MK fans have been speculating for some time as to what type of single-player modes would be made available in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1. The franchise’s krypt mode is not believed to be returning, setting up the opportunity for a new single-player experience.
A seeming leak of the game’s physical box art has now given new information about what the game’s single-player mode will entail.
What are Invasions in Mortal Kombat 1?
According to a new leak, Invasions are set to be the primary single-player mode in Mortal Kombat 1, other than the game’s expected story mode. The story mode will still take the lion’s share of initial attention, but Invasions is a mode meant to give purpose to players long after they complete the cinematic story mode experience.
This information came to light after box art taken from the physical version of the game was leaked in Brazil. Translating the text from Portuguese to English, it’s revealed that Invasions are being introduced to the series for the first time.
There’s still some confusion among fans as to exactly what type of content will be featured in the new Invasions mode. The text references traveling through various “kingdoms” in Mortal Kombat. There are also references to multiple “seasons” of play, meaning that player progress could be reset between different seasons in the game.
This will all be secondary to the game’s new cinematic story mode. The ending of Mortal Kombat 11 reset the franchise’s timeline, and now everything in the game’s lore is being changed. Raiden has been replaced as guardian of Earthrealm by Liu Kang, and Mileena is sitting royalty rather than her sister Kitana.
Many other changes are expected to be revealed over the course of the game. But once that’s finished, fans will have something more to look forward to: the mysterious new Invasions in Mortal Kombat 1.
