The Mortal Kombat 1 roster continues to grow with a new batch of confirmed characters headlined by Reptile.
A story-heavy trailer peppered with violent “Kombat” was shown on the final day of Evo 2023. The trailer also included three previously unrevealed playable characters and confirmed Sareena will return in Mortal Kombat 1 a new Kameo character.
Fans of Reptile have reason to rejoice as the Mortal Kombat reboot brings their favorite character into the limelight. The slimy ninja appeared in the first Mortal Kombat and became playable in Mortal Kombat 2. Reptile, whose real name is Syzoth is a shapeshifter who can change from a lizard to a person on command, an ability that’s heavily featured in the trailer and his moveset.
Reptile joined by Ashrah, Havik in Mortal Kombat 1 roster
Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik were all revealed as part of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster during Evo 2023.
Ashrah first showed up in Mortal Kombat: Deception. She is a demon who is disguised as a human. The trailer shows her denouncing evil and seeking redemption. This is shown with a demonstration of angelic powers, including a feathery Fatality.
The last playable character in the Evo 2023 trailer is Havik. He also made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat: Deception and is a Cleric of Chaos. He is an anarchist from the Chaosrealm, and is set to receive a major redesign in Mortal Kombat 1. The trailer sees him show off his regenerative powers in combat.
Lastly, there’s Sareena. She first appeared in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and then became a playable character in Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition. This time around, she is a Kameo character. Kameo characters aren’t playable but can be tagged in during fights to assist the player both offensively and defensively. A number of other familiar faces are set to be included as Kameo characters, but not as fully playable characters, including Jax, Sonya Blade, and Kano.
Will There Be More Characters?
There is no confirmation on whether the full Mortal Kombat 1 roster has been revealed. As of this writing there are 18 playable characters confirmed on the base roster. The list includes staple fighters such as Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, and Raiden. Further, there are 13 confirmed Kameo characters in the game.
NetherRealm also announced the Kombat Pack 1, which includes guest characters Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man alongside the returning Ermac, and Takeda as DLC characters. Mortal Kombat 11 received two Kombat Packs and very possible that Mortal Kombat 1 will recieve the same treatment.
Shang Tsung is also available as a pre-order bonus character who will be playable on day one. Players who miss the launch can purchase him separately as DLC. Mortal Kombat 1 is coming soon, and will be available on all modern platforms.
