Is The Talos Principle 2 delayed with other Devolver Digital games?

The Talos Principle 2 is one of the most hotly anticipated indie titles of 2023 and thankfully, it seems to have dodged the delays that have struck Devolver Digital.

In a recently released interview, Devolver Digital and Croteam shed some light on the status of the upcoming story-driven puzzle game. Additionally, Devolver Digital has confirmed the release window for The Talos Principle 2. Thankfully, it’s not as far off as some may have feared.

What is The Talos Principle 2 adding to the original?

The Talos Principle 2 will take place in a much larger world and more accessibility options, alongside a brand new story.

The biggest change is the scale of the world. Players who loved exploring every nook and cranny of the first game are going to have their hands full trying to unpack the several hubs of its sequel. Easter eggs were said to be more relevant to the narrative this time around, given how the setting is the “real world” as opposed to a digital realm.

There were also concessions made to make the game more accessible. Unpopular mechanics such as the recorder have been removed from the sequel, owing to how difficult it was to time. The escalating difficulty of the first game caused Soulslike-caliber headaches, but has been replaced with a more dynamic difficulty curve that throws players a bone every once in a while.

As for the story, there are more characters this time around, so there will be a lot more variance in the narrative. The game’s writers wanted to treat each perspective as fairly as possible, so fans are potentially getting a grander and more nuanced story as well.

Has The Talos Principle 2 been delayed?

The Talos Principle 2 release date has not been delayed.

Publisher Devolver Digital has never been shy about making fun of the gaming industry. It was no surprise it would parody the upbeat showcases of other companies to deliver some disappointing news. In the Devolver Delayed Showcase, the company proudly showed off a variety of games that fans won’t be playing this year.

Games that won’t be coming out until 2024 include The Plucky Squire, Stick It To the Stickman, Skate Story, Anger Foot, and Pepper Grinder. Fortunately, The Talos Principle 2 was not part of that roster of delayed Devolver titles.

The Talos Principle 2 is still set to be released in 2023, though there is no exact release date. Devolver is also set to ship Gunbrella, Wizard with a Gun, and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood later this year. The fact that Devolver has been willing to hit the pause button on releases suggests that development of The Talos Principle 2 is moving smoothly, so fans likely don’t need to worry.
