Here’s when the Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns DLC will come out

Cyrax and Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat 1

The Khaos Reigns DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 will come out soon, and Cyrax debuts alongside its release date.

Although it’s had its fair share of stumbles, Mortal Kombat 1 is still a commercial success for the franchise. The game received praise for its visual style, streamlined gameplay, and interesting picks for guest characters. However, some also criticized the game for its convoluted storyline, inconsistent game balance, and overbearing microtransactions.

When Mortal Kombat 1 revealed Kombat Pack 2, the hype soon overtook the criticisms for the time being. Kombat Pack 2 is set to begin with the release of the Khaos Reigns DLC, and the first returning character from Kombat Pack 2 is none other than Cyrax.

When is the release date for Cyrax in Mortal Kombat 1?

Cyrax launches alongside the Khaos Reigns DLC with a September 24, 2024 release date.  Notably, Cyrax is now a woman in the new story timeline. While Kameos like Janet Cage teased the possibility of a gender-bending kombatants, Cyrax is the first time a swapped gender character is made canon to the main story. Regardless of gender, her gameplay remains very much in the spirit of Cyrax’s classic style.

Cyrax hits hard and fast, with a plethora of aerial attacks and cybernetic weaponry. Her iconic energy nets make a return, pinning down opponents while she sends a barrage of bombs and saw-blades their way. She also boasts Mortal Kombat 1’s first Animality, wherein she turns into a hornet to destroy her enemies. Fan favorite Animalities will be included in a free update that coincides with the Khaos Reigns DLC release.

What is the story of Khaos Reigns in Mortal Kombat 1?

Khaos Reigns takes place after Mortal Kombat 1’s main story and will focus on Havik’s invasion of the realms.  The DLC’s main villain is Havik, who is leading a group of violent warriors from across the realms to sow chaos and destruction wherever they go. The Cyrax gameplay trailer also teased a wedding between Scorpion and his wife, an event that gets crashed by Lin Kuei assassins.

For reasons that will be clear to veteran Mortal Kombat fans, the attack could prove fatal for Scorpion’s wife, which may turn him into the wraith that fans know him as. Whatever happens, fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
