Pokemon TCG Pocket has taken the mobile gaming world by storm after its release and fans are wondering if it will also be arriving on Nintendo Switch.
Pokemon TCG Pocket distills the card game’s classic gameplay in a way that offers casual play and faster matches. A deck only has 20 cards, the maximum capacity of the bench is only for three Pokemon, and players only need to get three prizes by scoring knockouts on opposing Pokemon.
The game’s design could make for a solid experience on the Nintendo Switch, but could it really happen?
There’s no word on a Nintendo Switch release for Pokemon TCG Pocket
There is no official indication that Pokemon TCG Pocket will come out on the Nintendo Switch.
The new card game may wind up being another Pokemon GO; enjoying massive popularity despite being separated from the rest of the series. Though Pokemon TCG Pocket has much more console-friendly gameplay, effectively a given with GO’s GPS and AR features, there’s no sign it will be any different.
The gameplay mechanics are clearly intended for mobile gaming. The fast-paced TCG gameplay and lower card count could be compared to the likes of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links and Marvel Snap. Not all hope is lost regarding Pokemon TCG Pocket arriving on Switch.
Precedent suggests that the platform with the strongest chance of having Pokemon TCG Pocket being ported is for PC since most digital TCGs often have their counterpart for the said platform. The aforementioned Marvel Snap and Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links are both available on PC. Similarly, the established digital version of the Pokemon TCG, Pokemon TCG Live, is on mobile devices and PC but not Switch.
Regardless, neither Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, nor developer DeNA have hinted at a Nintendo Switch release.
Pokemon TCG Pocket does have Nintendo Switch Online account linking
Pokemon TCG Pocket has account-linking features for Nintendo Switch Online. This can be viewed as a positive sign, despite the lack of official information on a port.
Though many Pokemon apps stay locked to mobile devices, some make their way to Switch.
Pokemon Unite is available on both mobile and Nintendo Switch. This may be different from Pokemon TCG Pocket since the MOBA game came to Nintendo Switch before the mobile launch. Regardless, the fact that it is available for both platforms sparks some hope that the new digital TCG game might have a Switch release in the future.
Linking a Pokemon TCG Pocket and NSO account would likely allow players to have full cross-progression across both platforms, should the creators ever make the move.
