Jane Doe: Best build, Drive Discs for ZZZ’s brutal anomaly agent

jane doe zenless zone zero cutscene

Jane Doe is ZZZ’s first S-Rank Anomaly DPS in the game and when she has the right build and is paired with a solid team, she can easily become one of the strongest damage dealers in the game.

The mysterious and mischievous criminal behavior expert on the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team climbed to the top of every tier list, and it’s no surprise why. As a five-star anomaly DPS, she can unleash serious damage, racking up millions of points in damage, thanks to her assault procs. But to get the most out of her abilities, players will first need to find the best build.

Lucky for players who still haven’t got the hang of balancing crit ratios or aren’t fortunate enough to secure good crit rolls, they won’t have any issue building Jane. Being an anomaly agent, she is much easier to build. So, without further ado, here are the best Jane Doe build and teams, along with the ins and outs of her kit.

How to play Jane Doe in Zenless Zone Zero

Jane is a five-star physical anomaly unit, with attacks that feel like a fusion of Piper and Nekomata

Jane dishes out AOE damage through a flurry of slashes and spins, stacking up physical anomaly with each strike. Her swift attacks and gap closer make her a strong counter to mobile and slippery foes.

As an anomaly agent, Jane shines in applying anomaly quickly, and once the bar fills up, she unleashes devastating assault damage. Unlike pure DPS characters like Ellen and Nekomata, Jane doesn’t rely on crit stats; she needs around 400-700 anomaly proficiency and high attack values, which fuel the bulk of her damage output.

Jane’s damage revolves around Passion State. At the start of the battle, players will see a gauge in the top left corner, just under her HP. Every time she attacks, the bar fills up at different rates. When it’s full, indicated by the blue turning to Jane hits her peak damage potential. She gains up to 600 attack based on her anomaly proficiency, while her physical anomaly buildup rate speeds up. However, when she’s already in the Passion State, her attacks will instead start to consume the Passion State meter. Once it’s depleted, she’ll exit the state and lose the stat buffs.

When in the Passion State, Jane also gains an enhanced basic attack called Salchow Jump. Next to the Passion gauge, a blinking circle will show whether Salchow Jump is available. This move lets her spin and deal physical damage, with each hit building up physical anomaly, much like Piper’s EX Special.

That said, it’s optimal for Jane to stay in the Passion State, which is where things get tricky. Ideally, players should aim to be in the Passion State as much as possible.

So, which of Jane’s attacks fills up this gauge? Her EX special, dodge, defensive assists, and assist follow-ups generate the most. On the flip side, her chain attack and ultimate instantly put her into the Passion State. With that in mind, Jane players really need to keep their reflexes sharp, as dodging and parrying are their best bets for jumping into the Passion State quickly.

Once she’s in the Passion State, Salchow Jump, dodges, defensive assists, and assist follow-ups keep her there. By knowing these attacks, Jane can maintain the Passion State for longer, ensuring maximum DPS.

Best Jane Doe Drive Discs build ZZZ

Jane Doe’s best Drive Disc set is 4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Freedom Blues.

Jane isn’t built the same way as other DPS agents. When building her, ignore critical stats and focus on increasing her anomaly proficiency, anomaly mastery, attack, and pen ratio. Here are the best stats to go for when equipping Drive Discs: The ideal stats to target on her fourth, fifth, and sixth Drive Discs are anomaly proficiency, physical damage, and anomaly mastery, respectively.

4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Freedom Blues

A 4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Freedom Blues combo works best for Jane, regardless of whether the player is running a hypercarry or disorder team. Fanged Metal boosts Jane’s physical damage, and when she procs the assault damage, she can dish out 35% more damage to the target.

This effect lasts 12 seconds, but due to how fast she can proc assault, she won’t struggle that much in keeping the uptime of this buff. Add the 2-piece Freedom Blues, and she becomes more of a powerhouse, as it adds anomaly proficiency.

4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Hormone Punk

A 4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Hormone Punk is Jane’s second-best setup, and under the right condition, it can compete with the first option. By choosing Hormone Punk, Jane gains 10% ATK, which boosts the damage she deals with her attacks. Just keep in mind that before going for this setup, it’s a good idea to pick up some Drive Discs and W-Engines that allow her to reach at least 420 anomaly proficiency.

4-piece Fanged Metal and 2-piece Hormone Punk

The third option, 4-piece Freedom Blues and 2-piece Fanged Metal, can be a good alternative. Freedom Blues boosts her anomaly proficiency by 30 and lowers the target’s physical anomaly buildup resistance, making it easier to trigger assault procs. However, opting for Freedom Blues instead of Fanged Metal means sacrificing some damage for those quicker assault procs. And if there’s another physical unit like Piper or Caesar with this setup, it’s best to skip using it on Jane since the effects don’t stack.

2-2-2 Drive Disc sets can work for Jane Doe builds

Boosting Jane’s anomaly proficiency is more important than rounding out four-piece sets. WIth that in mind, players might be best served by using rainbow sets that have anomaly proficiency boosts.

Two-piece Freedom Blues and Chaos Jazz both offer +30 anomaly proficiency boosts. From there, Jane can add Fanged Metal for a pure damage boost, Puffer Electro for improved penetration ratio, or Swing Jazz for 20% energy regen.

    Best Jane Doe W-Engines

Jane Doe’s best weapons include Sharpened Stinger, Fusion Compiler, Rainforest Gourmet, and Weeping Gemini. Naturally, Jane Doe’s signature W-Engine is the best option available and is at the center of any min-max build. But unlike characters like Caesar, Jane has multiple strong alternatives to her signature weapon.

    Sharpened Stinger (S-rank)

Jane Doe’s signature weapon is also her best-in-slot. It boasts a high base attack with a sizeable amount of anomaly proficiency. To make the most out of this W-engine, Jane Doe needs to use dash attacks and perfect dodges consistently to maintain maximum stacks of Predatory Instinct, which yields 36% physical damage and 40% anomaly buildup rate increase.

    Fusion Compiler (S-rank)

Fusion Compiler is Jane’s second-best S-rank W-engine, even if it’s a bit behind her signature weapon.  It gives pen ratio, attack, and she can receive up to 75 anomaly proficiency at maximum stacks, which will come from using her special attack or EX special attack.

    Rainforest Gourmet (A-rank)

Rainforest Gourmet is an A-rank craftable W-engine, making it easy for players to fully refine it. It’s one of her free-to-play options, providing 75 anomaly proficiency and a 40% attack boost at U5.

    Weeping Gemini (A-rank)

Besides Rainforest Gourmet, Weeping Gemini as well is a craftable w-engine that offers 25% attack. On top of that, Jane Doe also receives a maximum of 192 anomaly proficiency at U5, which covers about half of the recommended AP for her. However, the passive effect of this w-engine expires when the target recovers from stun or once eliminated.

Best Jane Doe Teams and Bangboo

Jane Doe’s best teams are Hypercarry and Anomaly-based teams. Fortunately, Jane Doe has plenty of expensive and free-to-play potential squad members that can function around her kit, and improve her damage output.

Caesar is one of the best agents to partner with Jane.

NEPS Hypercarry team – Jane, Seth, and Caesar

Seth is considered Jane’s prime buffer and support, being a fellow member of the CISR that boosts anomaly proficiency. Not to mention, he’s an A-rank agent, so he’s easier to acquire and boost up when it comes to mindscapes. If he has a Shockstar Disco set, he’s capable of serving as the team’s anomaly proficiency buffer, shielder, and pseudo stunner. His additional ability also shreds the anomaly buildup resistance of enemies.

Proxies can round out the team by bringing in Caesar. Caesar allows Jane to become an on-field DPS that does not need to worry about getting her attacks interrupted thanks to her shield, which also gives a 1,000 flat attack bonus. Her combos also fill the daze bar pretty quickly, and do a great job at applying faster physical anomaly buildup if she has 4-piece Freedom Blues equipped. Seth and Grace both have quick combos, hence Jane gets most of the field time.

Assuming an optimal build, this Jane Doe team composition offers the smoothest rotation, with almost no drawbacks. A strong case can be made it’s the best team in all of Zenless Zone Zero, period. Also, since Caesar and Seth mainly rely on core skills, it doesn’t require a heavy investment to make it work. With two CISR members present, the best Bangboo for the team is going to be Officer Cui.

Sons of Calydon Hypercarry team – Jane, Caesar, and Lucy

In this setup, Jane serves as the main DPS, Caesar as shielder and stunner, and Lucy as a buffer. Jane being an attack scaler means she also benefits from Lucy’s 600 flat ATK bonus. With Caesar present, Jane receives a total of 1600 flat ATK bonus. Altogether, this creates a hypercarry team that leverages around buffs and sustain.

Ideal bangboo for Jane Caesar Lucy will be Red Moccus due to the presence of two Sons of Calydon agents.

Best F2P Hypercarry Jane team – Jane, Seth, Lucy

The best free-to-play team setup for Jane right now includes her, Seth, and Lucy. Seth gives 100 anomaly proficiency, and Lucy contributes 100 ATK, with both having quick assists that make rotations smoother. To pull this off, Lucy needs to begin by casting her EX special for a 600 attack boost, then a quick assist to Jane, followed by a defensive assist to Seth, and another quick assist to Jane to provide her with a small shield and 100 anomaly proficiency. Just ensure that Jane is placed before Seth, as his quick assist swaps backward.

Best bangboo for this hypercarry jane team is Officer Cui.

Shock-Assault Disorder Team – Jane, Seth, and Grace

Moving on to disorder teams, Grace can join the team as an Electric anomaly who will apply Shock and help trigger disorder. Disorder is a burst damage that occurs when one anomaly is applied to a different one within ten seconds. As for this team composition, players will want to pop the disorder damage by applying Shock first before Assault. Due to Grace’s high anomaly mastery, she is among the best candidates for trigger shock without stealing longer field time from Jane.

The best way to go about it is to build physical anomaly with Jane without popping Assault, parry into Seth who will also begin applying the electric anomaly, quick assist to the Rat DPS, switch to Grace and pull off combos that will trigger shock, then rotate back to Jane who will trigger both Assault, and Disorder.
