Marvel Tokon DLC characters leak may show game’s next fighters

marvel tokon leak

While Marvel Tokon has earned a mixed response from players and critics alike after its August launch, that hasn’t stopped speculation over the game’s possible DLC characters, as the buzz around a new potential leak shows.

Marvel Tokon released to much hype on August 6 across PC and PlayStation 5. Performance issues for many PC players initially stunted the excitement around the new Arc System Works fighting game, but that hasn’t stopped fans from debating which new fighters would next debut considering the long list of potential names waiting to be added.

Now, a fresh leak suggests that several characters may already be in early development, as well as a few stages they may be seen fighting across.

Who was seen in the new Marvel Tokon DLC character leak?

A new leak of potential Marvel Tokon DLC characters featured several popular names from Marvel lore, including Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Gambit, The Thing, and Wasp.

None of those inclusions would be hugely surprising, as it includes both some healthy variety and a dose of Marvel’s most popular names.

Doctor Strange is as prominent now as he ever has been, becoming a featured presence across the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serving as one of the original inclusions in the popular Marvel Rivals hero shooter. His sorcerous antics would surely provide developers at Arc System Works with plenty of opportunity for some fun and interesting design work.

Daredevil wasn’t a launch character in Marvel Rivals, but he did eventually arrive in the game through one of its many free updates. The brooding crime-fighter has starred in multiple popular Netflix series, with Marvel recently reinvesting into his screen presence.

Like Daredevil, Gambit was also recently added to Marvel Rivals through a free character update. Gambit is one of the most popular members of the X-Men team. His film portrayal by actor Channing Tatum in Deadpool & Wolverine generated quite a bit of buzz, and the character has also been one of the main story drivers in the critically-acclaimed X-Men 97 animated series.

Gambit is also separated from the other rumored characters on this list by his history in fighting games specifically. Gambit made his fighting game debut in Capcom’s 1996 release of X-Men vs Street Fighter, and was also included in the classic Marvel vs Capcom 2.

The Thing is yet another of the characters who this potential DLC leak points to making the jump from free update in Marvel Rivals to paid inclusion in Marvel Tokon. A member of the Fantastic Four that was just recently introduced to the MCU, Thing would provide the game with another big-bodied brawling character, a space arguably occupied by only The Hulk at launch.

With her ability to shrink down to small sizes, Wasp is another potential Marvel Tokon DLC character who would give Arc System Works developers an opportunity to really innovate in adding her to the game’s roster. Wasp was introduced to the MCU through the Ant-Man films, but has been a long-time member of the Avengers in the comic books.

New stages, Year 1 DLC plans for Marvel Tokon

A series of potential new stages were also seemingly leaked, including Klyntar, the Sanctum Sanctorum, and Japan.

Klytnar is the home planet of the symbiotic species to which Venom belongs, while the Sanctum Sanctorum is the home of Doctor Strange, further strengthening the leak’s case for his inclusion as a Marvel Tokon DLC character. The Japan location is a little tougher to pin down, but fits with the game’s purposeful anime influence.

Notably, this leak of potential Marvel Tokon DLC characters did not include Cyclops. The sometimes-leader of the X-Men is the one DLC character already confirmed by Arc System Works for inclusion in its “Year 1” DLC release.

The version of Cyclops that’s to be featured is specifically Phoenix Cyclops, representing a time when the character was possessed by the powerful Phoenix Force. This was also one of Cyclops’ more villainous turns, and it remains to be seen how that portrayal will be handled in the game.

Cyclops being included in Year 1 makes it clear that even if all of the leaked DLC characters featured in this latest batch do eventually come to Marvel Tokon, they won’t all join the roster initially. Some may take years to arrive in the game, while others may never come to fruition at all.

The Marvel Tokon DLC leak was initially posted to X by X0XLEAK, a leaker with a history of sourcing new information in games including in Marvel Rivals.
