Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask has added a slew of new Pokemon, including the ability to catch white-striped Basculin and evolve it into Basculegion.
Basculegion has finally been made available natively in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Basculegion was originally introduced in the gen-eight spinoff game Pokemon Legends: Arceus and now has been brought to the mainline games with The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask. The DLC gives the mainline games access to dozens of returning Pokemon including white-striped Basculin and its evolution, Basculegion.
Prior to the addition of the Kitakami region, the only way to obtain either white-striped Basculin or Basculegion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was to transfer them from Pokemon Legends: Arceus using Pokemon HOME. Now it is possible to catch and evolve one without the hassle.
Where to find white-striped Basculin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC
Players can find and catch white-striped Basculin in a lake in the far northeastern reaches of Kitakami.
This is the new area added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in the Teal Mask DLC. The red and blue stripe forms are available to catch in the base game but are unable to evolve. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players must purchase the DLC to catch a white-striped Basculin but can obtain it in other ways for free. This includes trade, Tera Raid battle invitation, or through Pokemon HOME without purchasing the DLC.
The first step to getting a Basculegion is to catch a white-striped Basculin. Found in an isolated lake in the northeastern corner of Kitakami in the Timeless Woods, it’s easy work to add a white-striped Basculin. The exact location of the Pokemon can be seen here:
How to evolve Basculin into Basculegion in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC
White-striped Basculin evolves into Basculegion by leveling up after hurting itself with moves that have recoil damage.
Unlike the majority of Pokemon that either have a level requirement to evolve or use a Fire Stone like Arcanine, white-striped Basculin has a unique evolution mechanic that returns in Scarlet and Violet. In order to evolve Basculin into Basculegion it must take 294 recoil damage without fainting, then level up. Using the moves Wave Crash, Take Down, Double Edge or Head Smash will add to the hidden total. If the Basculin doesn’t faint after taking 294 damage via recoil, it will evolve into Basculegion on its next level-up.
Players can freely heal the Pokemon using items like Potions or by visiting a Pokemon Center. The easiest method for doing this is raising a Basculin to a high level and knocking out other high-level Pokemon with these moves.
What is the difference between male and female Basculegion?
Male Basculegion has a higher Attack stat, while female Basculegion has a higher Sp. Attack stat.
There are two forms of Basculegion, depending on the gender of the white-striped Basculin. The male Basculegion is primarily green with purple-red accents while the female form has white accents instead.
With its rare water-ghost typing, Basculegion is a unique addition to any Pokemon master’s team. It can find use on competitive rain teams with the ability Swift Swim increasing Basculegion’s speed, allowing it to knock out enemies quickly. Basculegion also can learn the move Last Respects, making it a strong contender for a party spot during a single-player story playthrough.
