Pokemon TV is back, but it has evolved

Pokemon TV

The beloved Pokemon TV is back, and fans are excited about its evolution.

First introduced on the official Pokemon website back in 2010, Pokemon TV lets fans watch multiple Pokemon series for free, even super early episodes. The Pokemon Company launched as a mobile app in 2013 and then arrived in the Nintendo Switch eShop in 2021. This allowed fans watch from a variety of apps on compatible devices.

Nintendo announced the discontinuation of the Pokemon app in 2024, delisting it from all platforms as early as January. It was then gone completely in March, taking every show and episode with it. Pokemon fans could still watch some series on Netflix, Hulu, and Prime, but having a dedicated Pokemon app was enjoyable to many.

Pokemon TV is coming back on YouTube

The Pokemon TV channel returns after a short hiatus. Pokemon news site Serebii has shared that Pokemon TV is returning after its short break. But there are some changes this time around. Most notably, the service will now be a YouTube channel. It’s not clear how many series and how many episodes per series will be available when the channel launches.

Based on the YouTube page’s description — which says to follow the adventures of Ash and Pikachu — it seems like the first batch of shows will be older. Ash and Pikachu are not part of the new anime, Pokemon Horizons. The channel is already up but there are no videos uploaded yet. Pokemon TV will premiere on December 6, 2024.

How many seasons are there of the Pokemon anime?

There are currently 25 seasons of Pokemon. Although Ash is the poster boy of the anime continuity, not every series focuses on his adventures. Every season takes trainers on a journey that reflects the location of the games released in its era. Pokemon Horizons is based on Scarlet & Violet, with fans following Liko and Roy in the Paldea region.

The first season, which will likely be where Pokemon TV begins, is in the Kanto region where it all began. Coincidentally, Pokemon Pocket TCG is primarily composed of Pokemon from that era. The synergy between the nostalgic service and the card game’s first DLC in January 2025 means Pokemon nostalgia will run wild very soon.
