Release dates for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5, Xbox confirmed

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle received release dates for Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as the surprise announcement of a PS5 release date.

As far as nostalgic 1980s properties go, Indiana Jones is one of the most beloved. Although the franchise’s critical average hasn’t gotten better with time, due to recent installments receiving sweeping criticism, Harrison Ford’s iconic character still holds a place in the hearts of many. Naturally, the announcement of an action-adventure video game based on the franchise reignited the interest of Indiana Jones fans.

Still, the process hasn’t been smooth. One of the most contentious points about the game came not from its content but its availability. When Microsoft acquired Bethesda’s vast library, many assumed its new games would not appear on its rival console, the PS5. However, that is reportedly not the case.

When is the release date of Indiana Jones on Xbox?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9, 2024.

Like the previous trailer, most appeared to showcase more cutscenes but also featured some behind-the-scenes footage of Indiana Jones voice actor Troy Baker. While it was a well-put-together trailer, many fans noted the absence of extended gameplay footage. The lack of footage certainly left some fans worried about the game’s final state, especially with Bethesda’s history.

Like many Day One Xbox titles, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be part of Game Pass. However, instead of the standard Game Pass, fans must subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate. Because of this, many assumed Indiana Jones would be exclusive to the Xbox, but the last hour of the Gamescom trailer proved otherwise.

When is the release date of Indiana Jones on  PS5?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch for the PS5 in Spring 2025.

While no exact release date is given, it does reaffirm Xbox’s multiplatform goals. The staggered release date, previously used by Sony for a multitude of exclusives, drew criticism from PlayStation fans. Regardless, a PS5 release for the game is a welcome surprise for many. In 2023, all signs pointed to the game being Xbox and PC-exclusive.

As for why it will not be released until Spring 2025, it’s unclear.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was originally planned to launch across all platforms, but Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Softworks parent company Zenimax Media saw plans change. The staggered release date may be to retain a semblance of Xbox exclusivity. It might also be that development of the PlayStation 5 version was paused and the team needs to catch up on that lost time.

Regardless, PlayStation gamers can look forward to playing the game in 2025.
