Elden Ring revealed the price of its upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and it’s going to cost a pretty penny for fans.
Two years removed from Elden Ring’s release, FromSoftware finally released a trailer for its DLC. The reveal of Shadow of the Erdtree suggests it’s likely the biggest DLC undertaking in FromSoftware history, an impressive feat given the sheer amount of content that has been included in past DLCs like Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss and Bloodborne: The Old Hunters.
There are set to be loads of new areas to explore and bosses to fight in the new Land of Shadows, in addition to new weapons, skills, equipment, and spells. There will also be a special physical release including a new collector’s edition bundle. Of course, all this new content comes at quite a cost and fans might need to start saving up their runes now to afford it.
How much does the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC cost?
Shadow of the Erdtree’s Standard Edition will cost $39.99, the highest DLC price in FromSoftware history.
The last DLC expansion of a similar scale to Shadow of the Erdtree was The Ringed City from Dark Souls III. The Ringed City costs $14.99 but regularly goes on a 50% sale on Steam, which brings the cost down to $7.49. The Ringed City’s status as the official end of the Dark Souls franchise meant that it was no mere bonus DLC, and it boasted some of the most challenging and memorable boss fights in the history of the series.
If the story of Shadow of the Erdtree carries an even more ambitious story and scale than The Ringed City did for Dark Souls 3, then that may be why the price has been set so high for the Elden Ring DLC. For those looking to open up their wallets a bit further, there’s also a Premium Bundle that contains the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, a digital artbook, and a digital soundtrack that costs $49.99
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition coming at a high price
There will be both physical and digital re-releases of both Elden Ring and its DLC, including a glitzy Collector’s Edition that boasts a steep price tag.
Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be packaged together for $79.99. There will also be a Shadow of the Erdtree Deluxe Edition bundle, which includes the game and DLC, plus a new digital artbook, digital soundtrack, and bonus gesture for $99.99.
Fans who want the most extravagant version and don’t care about the price can get the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition for $270. The Collector’s Edition comes with the following:
- Code for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
- Code for digital soundtrack
- 40-page hardcover artbook
- 46-cm Messmer the Impaler statue
It’s important to note that the Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition does not come with the base game. Thanks to FromSoftware’s successful track record with DLC, fans are willing to dish out the cash for the hotly anticipated DLC.
Shadow of the Erdtree arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on June 21, 2024.
