A.K.I. is the second DLC character coming to Street Fighter 6 and she was revealed alongside a surprising Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration at Evo 2023
Many fans were shocked when an on-stage band at Evo started playing the classic 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. The reason for this sudden cover turned out to be the announcement of a collaboration project with the heroes in a half-shell.
The TMNT collaboration trailer showed off new skins representing each iconic turtle alongside TMNT-themed emotes and accessories. Accompanying this announcement was a gorgeously drawn illustration by Toshiaki Mori. It featured the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles alongside Street Fighter 6’s Ryu, Chun Li, Luke, and Kimberly.
The SF6 x TMNT collaboration is set to release on Tuesday, August 8. Right after this announcement, the host reveals that Capcom has another present.
Toxic femme fatale A.K.I. is coming to Street Fighter 6 as the second DLC character
A.K.I. is the second DLC character of Street Fighter 6, and is slated to come out in Autumn 2023. Capcom gave fans their first look at this new character with a trailer at Evo 2023.
The reveal trailer shows the protagonist of World Tour meeting a new master. It shows A.K.I. picking out poisons with a carefree attitude, freaking out her trainee. The contrast between her cold intelligence and enjoyment of inflicting pain puts her right at home with fellow femme fatale Juri.
Of course, the clearest point of comparison for A.K.I. to another character in Street Fighter lore is F.A.N.G., who made his debut in Street Fighter 5. Many elements of her design are similar to F.A.N.G. including the flowing robes, talon-like fingers, and even the wide-brimmed “hat.” Though in this case, the hat is a ridiculous haircut.
Since no gameplay footage was revealed, it’s unknown how similar A.K.I. and F.A.N.G will be in terms of playstyle. F.A.N.G. was a bottom-tier zoner throughout much of SF5 history, due to his unorthodox charge mechanics. A.K.I. won’t have to work hard to become more popular.
Will there be more Street Fighter 6 DLC characters?
Street Fighter 6 Year 1 still has two more DLC characters coming soon.
With both Rashid and A.K.I. ready to fight this year, there are two other confirmed DLC characters coming to Street Fighter 6. Ed will be following A.K.I.’s release in Winter 2024, while Akuma won’t be coming out until Spring 2024.
There has been no official announcements on the SF6 website of what year two will be looking like. With the TMNT collab, there’s a strong chance that oddball guest characters will make their debut without becoming members of the main cast.
