Netherrealm Studios has dropped Takeda’s gameplay and release date trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, and he looks to be a worthy swan song for the first Kombat Pack.
Despite difficulties with its other properties, publisher Warner Bros Games has found success in Mortal Kombat 1. In its first two months, Mortal Kombat 1 sold over three million copies. However, the game is not without its flaws and controversies.
Despite some positive feedback, many felt the gameplay was a step back from Mortal Kombat 11. At one point, Mortal Kombat 11 even surpassed Mortal Kombat 1 in daily player counts on Steam. However, one thing fans universally seem to love is the included characters for the first Kombat Pack. Takeda finally fills out the first wave of DLC, and he’s coming very soon.
When is Takeda’s release date in Mortal Kombat 1?
Takeda, alongside Kameo character Ferra, will make his Mortal Kombat 1 debut with a July 23, 2024 release date. Mortal Kombat X introduced a group of characters nicknamed the “Kombat Kids” by MK fans. These included the new generation of fighters related to iconic MK characters in various ways, such as Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Jacqui Briggs, and Takeda Takahashi.
While each did make a short cameo in the game’s story mode, only Takeda became a fully-fledged character in Mortal Kombat 1.
As for who’s next after Takeda, Netherrealm Studios hasn’t announced yet. Modern Mortal Kombat games have all included two Kombat Packs, starting with Mortal Kombat X. Given the sheer popularity of the DLC characters, it’s unlikely that Mortal Kombat 1 will stop at a single Kombat Pack release.
Takeda gameplay style in Mortal Kombat 1 is a combination of Mortal Kombat X variations
Takeda’s gameplay and move set features a variety of attacks from his Mortal Kombat X incarnation. The most dominant variation in Takeda’s current style is Lasher, a methodical style with plenty of mobility and range. Fans will also love to see the return of Takeda’s long combo strings, which will surely be the bane of many opposing players upon his release.
In addition to Takeda’s gameplay, the Takeda release date trailer also revealed some buffs to the Kameo characters, namely Sektor and Frost. Sektor now fires missiles while Frost can summon an ice wall for juggling opponents. These changes should be a welcome shake-up of the Mortal Kombat 1 meta.
