A leak suggests that the next big game remaster of a classic game is Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition, and it may come out in the very near future.
Video game ratings boards have become a go-to source for leaks in recent months. In the same way the controversial Red Dead Redemption re-release was spoiled by South Korea’s game rating board, the United States’ ESRB has seemingly spoiled the reveal of a re-release or possible remaster of Beyond Good and Evil.
The game hasn’t been officially revealed by Ubisoft but the company might need to expedite any announcement plans. The ESRB no longer lists the game, but screenshots of the site were taken and spread across social media.
Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition platforms, release date
Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is releasing for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. No release date for the game has been confirmed. The original released on November 11, 2003.
Beyond Good and Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition does not seem to be coming to Xbox One, despite the ESRB having the game listed as coming to the PS4. Alongside the game’s platforms and titles, the ESRB describes the game’s “reporter accompanied by a pig-like companion” and “stylized enemies that generally break apart or vanish into puffs of smoke.” There is no indication of what improvements may have been made to the original in this re-release.
Beyond Good and Evil was released on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC in 2023. It was later ported to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version can already be played on Xbox consoles using backward compatibility.
When is Beyond Good and Evil 2 coming?
There is no set release window for Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ubisoft says that the game is still being developed.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was first teased in 2008 and then resurfaced at E3 2017 after almost a decade of quiet with a trailer and in-engine demo. Ubisoft elaborated that Part 2 would be a prequel and followed that up with a cinematic trailer at E3 2018. Since then, there has basically been no word on the game.
That’s not the only piece of Beyond Good and Evil media left in limbo. In August 2020, a Beyond Good and Evil feature film by Netflix was announced. It is unknown if the film is still in the works or if it it was nixed by Netflix.
The development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been mired with troubles and tragedy. Beyond Good and Evil creator Michel Ancel left the studio in 2020. February 2023 saw the studio behind Beyond Good and Evil 2 lose its managing director, Guillaume Carmona.
Most recently, Beyond Good and Evil 2 creative director Emile Morel passed away at the age of 40 in July. He previously worked as a game designer on the critically acclaimed Rayman Legends.
