FromSoftware has been completely silent about the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release date, but that’s not the case with its parent company.
While FromSoftware is known for producing AAA blockbuster titles at a rapid-fire clip, the studio took its time with Elden Ring. Fans were spoiled when three Dark Souls games and Bloodborne came out within a five-year span, and that made the three-year wait for Elden Ring excruciating. Unfortunately, the wait for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC isn’t going to be much easier.
Kadokawa Company is a media conglomerate that happens to own developer FromSoftware and a number of other studios. The company reports to investors on a quarterly basis, with those reports sometimes giving additional insight into the release plans of its subsidiaries. Included in one of those was an update on the Elden Ring DLC and unfortunately, its release date is far off in the future.
What is the Elden Ring DLC release date?
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree does not have a definite release date, but it will not come out until April 2024 at the earliest.
In May, Kadokawa Corporation delivered one of its quarterly earnings reports which included details on its financial results. It exhaustively covered the financial success of Elden Ring and cited its surprisingly high sales as the main factor in a year-over-year sales decline. The company also detailed a number of upcoming projects across various media properties alongside revenue predictions for the rest of the fiscal year.
The report gave no timeline when it came to the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree release date. This means that there is essentially no hope that it will come out before the end of the fiscal year. Kadokawa’s fiscal year ends on March 31, 2024, meaning the DLC won’t come out until April 2024 or later.
This was not a mistake or omission, either. The report acknowledges that the DLC is in development but makes no mention of it in the studio’s projections for the fiscal year. Notably, it does acknowledge expansion plans for FromSoftware.
“FromSoftware aims to further strengthen its development capabilities by increasing personnel, etc.,” the report says.
The good news for Elden Ring fans is that a recent report from Kadokawa states that players may get more content as they wait. The studio is planning to release more Elden Ring content in the game aside from Shadow of the Erdtree.
Armored Core 6 is the centerpiece of FromSoftware for the time being
While players aren’t going to be exploring new areas of the Lands Between any time soon, that doesn’t mean there isn’t more FromSoftware content coming. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is coming out on August 25, 2023.
Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki added some Soulsborne elements to Armored Core 6. Though the game is still a fast-paced shooter, developers are putting a greater emphasis on players’ in-game skills than the series’ traditional focus on rebuilding mechs. Though many would likely prefer having Elden Ring DLC, Armored Core 6 still has the look of one of the best games of 2023.
