Dragon’s Dogma 2 has recently received a Saudi Arabian age rating, suggesting that a release date announcement may be around the corner for what is a highly anticipated sequel.
Establishing a link between the ESRB or equivalent rating boards and game release dates is not a far-fetched idea. This is supported by many past examples of games appearing first through ratings boards before being officially announced or released.
Quake 2 Remastered was rated by The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea in July of this year and then released just one month later during Quakecon. Similarly, the Baten Kaitos HD remasters received a rating from The Film and Publication Board of South Africa in July and became available in stores only two months later, showing how quick the turnaround time can be.
There is a likelihood of Dragon’s Dogma 2 following the same pattern, especially considering Capcom’s previous announcement of an “undisclosed” major title to be released by March 2024. This is thought to be a reference to a new game in an established franchise, and that fits the bill for a potential Dragon’s Dogma 2 appearance. It also lends credence to the idea of an upcoming release date for the game, since it would need to arrive within the next few months to hit the March 2024 target.
When will Capcom release Dragon’s Dogma 2?
Dragon’s Dogma 2 exact release date remains unknown at the moment, though signs point to it releasing by March 2024.
A recent Arabic tweet, courtesy of the General Authority of Media Regulation in Saudi Arabia, provided a potential update on the game and that it’s intended for a mature audience. This suggests that the game is nearing completion, considering all the aforementioned factors.
At the last Tokyo Game Show in September, many journalists in Japan were able to play the game and interview the developers. In an interview with Dragon’s Dogma 2 director Mr. Hideki Itsuno, it was stated that the development of the game is getting “closer and closer” to completion thanks to the continued technical advancements of Capcom’s proprietary RE engine.
The director also mentioned that the title was already “far along in development” at the time of the “Dragon’s Dogma 10th Anniversary Fan Meeting” held in June 2022, which further supports the theory that a release date is fast approaching and will arrive by March 2024.
