Details of Assassin’s Creed Hexe may have come out in a report, including information on its story and release date.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has had a rollercoaster experience in the modern era. While the core of Assassins vs Templars has remained relatively consistent, each game jumps around to a new protagonist and timeline without much mind for continuity. Still, the formula worked, given the franchise’s continued success after Ezio and Desmond’s stories ended.
Assassin’s Creed Hexe will take the franchise in a new direction. The upcoming entry will lean into the mystical side of Assassin’s Creed lore. The Apple of Eden has supernatural elements, but these have leaned more toward modern science fiction rather than fantasy. Hexe will instead reportedly see the series take a sharp left turn into the realms of magic and witchcraft.
What is Assassin’s Creed Hexe about?
Assassin’s Creed Hexe will focus on Elsa, a female assassin in 16th-century Central Europe under the Holy Roman Empire.
Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson reports Elsa has magical abilities that no other Assassin’s Creed protagonist has had before. He states unreleased footage showcases Elsa having the ability to possess cats to distract guards during a chase.
The game will reportedly feature a “Fear System” akin to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack the Ripper DLC. Witch trials in the 16th century saw 40,000 to 100,00 people executed for witchcraft. Fear would fit the tone of the bleak historical setting and play into the role of Assassins as ostracized members of society.
While some form of “magic” has existed in Assassin’s Creed before, it’s often associated with ancient alien technology. Whether Hexe will follow that formula or lean on the supernatural aspects of these powers remains unknown.

Ubisoft will reportedly release Asassin’s Creed Hexe in 2026.
Hexe will launch on Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft’s online hub for the franchise. Other upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles include Assassin’s Creed Red and Assassin’s Creed Invictus. The success of Assassin’s Creed Hexe will likely affect Ubisoft’s direction with the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Some fans have criticized the focus on magic and claim it makes Assassin’s Creed feel too much like Dishonored. Many others cite the similarity to Dishonored as a positive, a way to shake up the franchise’s stagnant formula. Either way, fans won’t know more about Assassin’s Creed Hexe until closer to its release date.
