What’s new in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st remake?

A remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st for the Nintendo Switch has just been revealed, but what’s its release date and will it include Trails in the Sky SC?

The Trails series is one of the most beloved JRPG series ever, with over a dozen games across two decades. While many JRPGs boast of open worlds and massive stories, Trails in the Sky took it to a level that surpassed many of its contemporaries.

Although modest in budget and presentation, the franchise made up for that with a sprawling world and captivating story. The first game famously never made it out of Japan throughout the 2000s, only receiving a port in 2011. Now, Trails fans can finally play the classic game with a long-overdue remake.

When is the release date of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st remake?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky The 1st will launch in 2025, and will feature familiar content with a brand new look for the game.

The remake of Trails in the Sky’s first chapter was revealed with little fanfare. In contrast to other RPGs during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, including Suikoden 1 & 2 and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, Trails in the Sky only got a few seconds of airtime during the sizzle reel.

The first chapter establishes the protagonists, siblings Joshua and Estelle Bright, and their adventures throughout the kingdom of Liberl. That said, players aren’t going to get the full story here.

Is Trails in the Sky SC in the Nintendo Switch remake?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC will not be included in the new version released on the Nintendo Switch.

The Japanese-language Nintendo Direct showcased a much longer trailer than the sizzle reel cameo it received in the English version. As the title indicates, this only covers the first half of the original game. However, this is no different from the original release. Trails in the Sky was such a big project that it was split into three games.

Nihon Falcom has not revealed a remake of Trails in the Sky SC. It could potentially be released as DLC for the FC remake, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Even so, it’s unlikely that Falcom won’t eventually cover SC, given the series’ popularity. Whether SC will bake the third game into its story remains to be seen. Many fans consider the third game more like DLC, so there’s a possibility that Falcom just merges the two titles.

What’s new in the Trails in the Sky the 1st remake?

Trails in the Sky for the Nintendo Switch is receiving a full graphics overhaul and updated combat.

The remake is in full 3D, with updated character models and environments fitting for modern systems. The original PSP version released globally used 2D sprites adapted from 3D models.

Much like Trails through Daybreak, the gameplay combines turn-based and real-time combat. Fans were hyped for a Trails remake, with the classic RPG set to enjoy a second wind on modern hardware.
