The Nintendo Direct revealed the release date for the much-awaited Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake and led to confirmation of its platforms.
Dragon Quest fans have had to wait a long time for information about Dragon Quest 3’s remake. The game resurrection was initially revealed in 2021, and new information was given three years later in 2024. Almost nothing was mentioned of the game in the three years between those times. However, that all changed with the June 18, 2024 Nintendo Direct, revealing more information about the title.
In addition to confirming the release date, players got their first look at the remake and the visual upgrades. The trailer also cleared up any questions players had about the leaks that Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D would be part of a trilogy.
Is Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D part of a trilogy?
The June 18 Nintendo Direct revealed that Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D is part of the remade Loto–Erdick trilogy of Dragon Quest games
MysticDistance, parading as his alternate identity of notable leaker Midori, reported DQ3 isn’t the only original Dragon Quest game getting remade. The entire original trilogy consisting of Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3 was speculated to be getting remade and that’s exactly what was confirmed.
The end of the trailer revealed that the entire Erdick trilogy was getting remakes. However, the remake of 1 and 2 will be released in 2025, with both the games also being remade in HD-2D. An exact date has not been given for the two other games, although it’s safe to assume they’ll be released as a package.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D release date and platforms
Dragon Quest 3’s remake is slated to come out on November 14, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Midori also reported that the game would launch before the end of Square Enix’s fiscal year in March 2025. The same leaker also noted that the game would appear in the Nintendo Direct shortly after Square Enix posted the teaser trailer confirming the game’s platforms.
While Dragon Quest 3’s remake is coming in 2024, the rest of the trilogy is slated to be released sometime in 2025. It’s unknown if the decision to remake the entire trilogy instead of just the third game was why there’s such a big gap between the game’s initial reveal and release date.
