Fans were hoping that the next Bethesda Softworks release after Starfield was going to be The Elder Scrolls 6 but instead, it’s a video game adaptation of Indiana Jones.
The Elder Scrolls 6 may have been announced years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s coming out soon. Instead, Bethesda is set to juggle the post-release patches and probable DLC for Starfield with a new title based on the Indiana Jones film franchise. Though the long-awaited sequel to Skyrim remains in development, there’s still no clear picture about when it will come out.
While that’s a shame, a Bethesda adaptation of Indiana Jones has a lot of potential. Here’s everything there is to know about the game and when it might come out.
Who is making the new Indiana Jones game?
The next Indiana Jones game is being developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Todd Howard, who directed Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Skyrim is serving as executive producer.
Over the last decade, MachineGames has become Bethesda’s go-to studio for making first-person shooters. The team rebooted the Wolfenstein franchise in 2014 with Wolfenstein: The New Order and recently released the remastered Quake 2, which included a graphical overhaul and dozens of new levels.
When is the Bethesda Indiana Jones game coming out?
There is no official release date or estimated release window for Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game. The game was first revealed in 2021 but a recent interview with Todd Howard regarding Starfield included him saying the game was “midway” through development. This suggests that it may be left to cook for years to come.
There was initially speculation that the game would coincide with the release of the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny film, which launched in June 2023. This did not come to pass, with no media or information about the game coming before or immediately after its time in theatres.
It is uncertain how far MachineGames was into producing the game when it was first revealed in 2021. This could potentially mean the new Indiana Jones game is years away from release, but there’s little information to work with.
Will Harrison Ford be a part of the Indiana Jones game?
Harrison Ford may serve as the voice actor for Indiana Jones in the upcoming game. There has been no confirmation from Bethesda, Disney, or Ford on this matter, however.
The actor has done very little voice acting during his career but has taken on some roles more recently. His most notable voiceover role came in the 2019 film The Secret Life of Pets 2. Though there have been many video games that include characters portrayed by him, including previous Indiana Jones games, he has lent his likeness to them but not his voice.
Ford’s only voiceover role in a video game is 2016’s Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he redid some of his lines from the film. While Ford doing voice roles was almost unheard of previously, it feels more likely that it could happen with Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game.
The big question is how intense the role would be for him. Ford is over 80 years old and while he continues to work, there has been discussion regarding how long he can continue. If the game is story-intensive, Ford may not be interested in spending days in a recording booth.
