Why COD fans are concerned about new Warzone map Avalon

Avalon Warzone map leak

It’s been all but confirmed that a new map called Avalon is coming to Warzone in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and some COD fans are concerned already.

Despite the franchise being a bit lackluster the past few years, players have hopes that Black Ops 6 will be the much-needed revival of the Call of Duty series. The game’s mysterious marketing as well as confirmation that historical figure Saddam Hussein is in the game point to something big.

This has left Warzone fans curious for more information on what to expect. Back in June, leakers uncovered some exciting map possibilities for the battle royale. And a recent leak has left many confident that it’s happening.

Verdansk rumored to return to Warzone in 2025

Verdansk is the most iconic Warzone map. It was originally rumored that Verdansk would return in December of 2024 if it were to follow usual COD release patterns, but later leaks suggest it will come out in 2025, a delay due in part to a new map coming before it.

A lot of players have applauded the return of Verdansk, while others have accused developers of trying to use nostalgia to boost the hype around the “dying” game. This accusation was fueled in part due to a rumor that Verdansk was not originally going to be part of Warzone in Black Ops 6 until developers saw the success of Fortnite OG.

Either way, Verdansk’s likely return has become big news for Warzone players.

New Warzone map Avalon leaked again

Avalon is the current code name for a new Warzone map that was initially leaked roughly a month ago. This map was said to be coming before Verdansk, but now leakers claim it’s coming after Verdansk, meaning it’s also arriving in 2025.

Now, photos from Avalon have been shared — and then forcibly removed by developers — which all but confirms that the map is coming soonre or later. Unfortunately, the quick glimpse at the leaked images have not impressed fans.

The since-deleted photos included a lot of water and open space, all of which has Warzone fans worried. Others have commented on the map’s poor graphics and generally lackluster appearance, but this could be due to the map not being complete yet. While the stadium, gulag, and golf course had some players intrigued, the water really seems to be bogging down players’ opinions of the map.

The amount of water coincides with official teasers from developers, creating further confirmation that this is most likely the map in question.

Despite concerns, Call of Duty: Warzone players did commend developers for creating an original map instead of only offering the repeat of Verdansk.
