In a now-deleted tweet, video game retailer GameStop seemingly leaked the release date of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the long-awaited remake of MGS 3.
The tactical espionage action series is arguably Konami’s most esteemed contribution to the gaming entry. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a single new entry for the last 6 years following Metal Gear Survive’s 2018 release. It’s even worse than it sounds though, as Metal Gear Solid Survive was essentially dead on arrival, garnering poor reviews from critics and fans.
Konami dusted off the series in 2023 by re-releasing the first three Metal Gear Solid games on modern consoles. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the first new entry in the series since Survive, but its release date has been unknown beyond a vague “2024.” Metal Gear fans are excited for this remake and they might now know when it’s coming out, even if official word didn’t come from Konami.
Apparent GameStop leak reveals Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date
The MGS 3 remake’s release date is November 17, according to a now-deleted GameStop tweet.
November 17, 2004 is the original Metal Gear Solid 3’s release date. If GameStop’s tweet is accurate, this means that Konami will align the MGS 3 remake’s release date with the game’s 20th anniversary. AAA video games tend to be released on either a Tuesday or a Friday, and November 17 of this year falls on a Sunday, so this date left fans wondering if this was a mistake on behalf of GameStop.
This still aligns with official materials, however. PlayStation included the Silent Hill 2 remake and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in “games to play on PlayStation 5 in 2024” marketing materials. A mid-November release date would be cutting things relatively close, but would still be in line with official ads. Regardless, GameStop has since deleted the tweet and Konami has not confirmed a release date yet.
What platforms will Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater be released on
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Unlike the original Metal Gear Solid 3, which was originally a PlayStation 2 exclusive, the remake will be released across three platforms. People unfamiliar with the franchise will have access to the remake as their entry to one of gaming’s most prestigious franchises.
Metal Gear is praised for its cinematics, characters, and writing and trailers for the remake have been well-received. While Hideo Kojima, the original creator of Metal Gear, is not with Konami anymore, this remake is trucking along with Noriaki Okamura at the helm. Noriaki Okamura has been a producer at Konami for many years and also has experience working with Metal Gear games.
This release is positioned to be the start of a wave of Metal Gear Solid revivals. Leaks have hinted at a Metal Gear Solid 1 remake, while data mines hint at another Master Collection.
